Andrew pin holes normaly happen due to coats being too thick. Each coat needs to be thin enough to allow the paints natural chemicals to escape during the first 15 mins of flash times. If the paint is thick and not thinned witb thiners it will not allow the chemicals to escape hence a bubble into a pin hole.
Thanks mate. I was praying you'd chime in. So next time 2:1 clear to hardener with 15% thinners?
More thinners on your last coat to help it flow to a glass finish and no cutting or polish should be needed with 2 pk. On your build coats dont spray to try ant get a gloss finnish, keep them thin and matt then gloss up your last coat with slower spray motion not more paint.
Ok great. Around 18psi? And this is with a hvlp gun and a 1.4 tip.
Honestly mate. If there is ever a time when our paths cross I owe you at the very least a pint or 7. I am so grateful for the help you've given me.
Buddy that's what these forums are for, we want everyone building amazing guitars. They just make the world a better place lol...
Couldn't agree more. Can I ask why you don't use sanding sealer? For the Tele project I'm doing a finish that is unsuitable for timber mate and just want a clear over the wood. I spoke to a fw rep and he reckons I could go the sanding sealer, a few light tack coats of acrylic, let it dry then 2k it.
Whoa she's changed colour! Ahhh the old "pinholes of death", been there bro! Brown's lookin' real nice though.
Thanks man. Pin holes of pain in my arse. Lesson learnt though. Respect the 2k, love the 2k, thin the 2k and don't rush it.
:-)
I have never used sanding sealer in any of my builds. I normally fill the grain with old mate timber mate and dye the wood or paint (no primer) put a coat of acrylic on and Infra red the shit out of it , leave it for a couple of days then start the clear. I don't do any cut or polish for tweo to three weeks depending on the weather.Quote:

I have how ever ordered some sealer from Stu Mac to try it and see how it goes with Acrylic clear.
Thanks again. For the Tele I'll be something so need a totally clear sealer to go over the wood and then either clear over that or considering an oil finish. No idea where to start with oils though.
Damn phone. Will be doing something different. I don't think the timber mate will get along with this finish.
So cleared this and the candycaster again yesterday, polished up and doing some assembly. Not sure whether to go the stock pups so its black all round or use some Epi lp pups I had. Black looks better but the epis will probably sound better.

Update. All the hardware is on except tuners. All wired up now and working great. Promised the wife I'd do a bbq then do our tax so I'll finish her off a bit later on.
Jeepers, it's looking more pepper than salt i.e. HOT :)
I'm keen to see her all fitted out.
Getting closer!

I have an issue though. The pots don't clear the body to be able to screw the nut onto it. Will sand inside the cavity a bit.
Andrew, looking sweet. Is the copper shielding too thick for the nut on the pots to thread on ?
Nah no shielding mate. Probably about a mil or so off the thread even popping up. The pots closest to the edge are fine it a just the two closest to the strings. I'm guessing it's where the top arches and the routs for those pots aren't deep enough to compensate for the arch.
Sorry about the photo, bit hard to do extreme close ups outside at night.
http://www.pitbullguitars.com/wp-con...4-IMAG0728.jpg
ah ok got it Andrew, the pot recesses need to be deeper then where the arch is higher. Will need to make those 2 recesses a tad deeper. Forget about the washers and that should save close to 1mm
On to it. Got one sorted, one to go.
cool. Must be getting late over the east. You going to get this wired up tonight and making noise ?
Sure am. All that's left to do is glue the nut in and string her up
More problems haha. With the neck in place the bass side us considerably lower than the treble side, like 5mm plus difference. I shimmed it last night so now it's flat but the neck is too ytall and even with the bridge all the way out its still buzzing out and won't fret notes at all.

Unsure of what to do. The pocket was a bit bumpy in places so sanded that out a little. Should I be taking some of the high side of the heel?
Andrew looks like the neck is angled up too much. Neck needs to tilt down a little where your's looks like its tilting up. Worry about getting the neck flat after you get the string action correct.
Yes try and get the neck pocket flat. The neck heel should be flat. Might need to sand off the drill holes
Thanks mate. I'll get the neck off tonight, take a few pics of the pocket and then another of it reinstalled and see where to go from there.
Actually I found this photo I took yesterday with the neck unshimmed. The bass side is waaaaay lower into the body than the treble.
http://www.pitbullguitars.com/wp-con...3-IMAG0725.jpg
yer try and level the neck pocket, you can always put a shim under if the neck is too low and strings too high. Some of these kits take some tweaking. This is the most important part of the guitars playability so take your time. Luckily its a bolt on so you can remove and re-tweak.
Don't modify the neck heel, that should be flat
Is the bass side too low or the treble too high. Maybe timber mate the pocket and flatten it when it dries? A bit out of my depth.
You can sort of see here the top right of the pocket is raised and the middle as a valley in it.
http://www.pitbullguitars.com/wp-con...x-IMAG0719.jpg
Put up a pic looking into the neck pocket from the other side, it's a bit hard to see from that angle.
Will do later tonight mate. I'm at work, just trying to find a pic that might show a bit of it on my phone. Cheers for the help
I found another photo. Just under my thumb is the raised bit and where the 3 is, that's the dip.
In the second photo you can sort of see where the edge of the pocket kicks up on the right. I'll get a stack of better photos when I get home
