wow , nice
Godin 5th Ave Kingpin, simple, classy, and satin black rocks:

I don't think Mr Maruszczyk Svoboda would be too impressed if I picked this up and busted out the bass riff from Blister in the Sun. Which is what I do with every acoustic bass I pick up. Gorgeous looking instrument though.

Ran across this and thought it had to go up...
Wow. The Maruszczyk Svoboda Fretless is drop dead gorgeous.
And the Lieberman Clarke is pretty damn hot too.
Multiscale acoustic? I guess it was just a matter of time. I would love to get my hands on a multiscale guitar they intrigue me somewhat.
Hey Pabs. That scale just does my head in. I love a challenge but I do value my sanity somewhat. Well, what's left of it anyway.
But the 5 string certainly tingles my manhood.
That fivestring looks even sweeter in person 8-) The optical pickups really hit my technophile button too.
I most definitely want to try a multiscale guitar as well...

File under: Finishes that you could dive into.
http://www.prsguitars.com/privatestock/img/slider/2.jpg
wow Pablo that is one amazing PRS ! Incredible flame top !
Agreed. You could dive into that. It looks so much like water rippling.
Beautiful guitar. I so wish I knew how to achieve this. My feeble attempts at popping the grain fall woefully short.
cheers,
Gav.
@ Gav I'd say the cap he has to start with has amazing figure. Much more than the PBG kits, I think with practice and a really high grade flame maple cap we can achieve close to this finish
That looks more like a quilted maple to me, which I think accounts for most of the difference between finishes you get for flame maple. Could be wrong though, not a wood-spotter ;)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quilt_maple
Looks great though
Lovely! (provided it is real wood, not some simulacra - the plastic trim/buttons on my Logitech gaming mouse has a sort of optical effect not dissimilar to that which appears much deeper than it really is). This one is similar I think (perhaps not quite those amazingly long waves that top has - and the obviously different pickups)?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iP69Xb2lO9I
Similar. A Custom 24 will set you back 2-4k depending on the top. This guy
http://www.prsguitars.com/privatesto.../img/1663b.jpg
is PRS Private Stock #1663. Private stock guitars are in the 15-30k range. Damn.
I'm sure this is genuine quilted maple, but some cheaper guitar companies were (in the 90's at least) using a rippled plastic sheet under the clear finish to achieve this effect. (So I'm told anyway)
These do appear on another thread, but deserve to be here in their own right. And made by DB himself!

I find myself somewhat lusting after that bottom bass. Beautiful wood and gorgeous clean lines. Has it got a piezo pickup in the bridge?
they appear in my thread about tone, and there is no doubt that these are not only beautiful, but tone monsters as well, they are awesome! Bone bridge for the win!Quote:

This gorgeous thing from Skervesen Guitars.

30.3 inch scale, one piece mahogany body, poplar burl top.
That burl top is outrageous, in fact that guitar is pretty outrageous.

Wow Brendan.... When did you sneak my beasties in?.... only just spotted them 8O
Lawry, the Bass in question has the EMG HZ hidden under the top... there is a wafer thin section of the top left.
It was very stressful routing out the cavity as I was worried I would cut through and spoil the beautiful Spalted Black Sassafras top!
This one, known as Mr Tim's Bass of extreme sexiness was a collaborative effort between our very own Tim (builder of the stunning Midnight Bass) and I.
Tim designed and I built her.
DB Figured that they fully deserve to be here - if I'm looking for inspiration, this thread and GOTM are the first two stops.
Tim's bass of extreme sexiness sure lives up to it's name.
That's amazing, DB.Quote:

Tell me about the bridge. Is it a floater? I'm curious about action and intonation adjustments (yeah, I know, it's fretless - but you've still got to get these things closer than ball-park).
not sure if I have seen Mr Tim's bass DB, I've seen the templates. It certainly is a spectacular looking bass. How thin is the timber above the pickup DB ? must have been some serious nerves routing that close to the cap !
The Blue Meanie or whatever has unreal flame etc, but the price tag is plain silly IMO.
The Skervesen looks stunning, but the headstock seems incongruous with the body shape IMO.
The Mayones effort has a truly dazzling grain the redefines "popping" HTF is it achieved?
The DB sexy sassafras is the absolute epitome of elegance & clean lines IMO.
The DB violin bass is just superbly crafted and makes want get started on my "fiddle" guitar.
That's my two shillings' worth . . . .
Lawry, the Bridge is a floater... Intonation was actually rather easy.
It is within a bees knee of being spot on across the four. Same with the violin Bass.
It just took a few swipes with the nut file on the Bridge slots to get it close as.
Woks, it is 1mm and a fleas knee thick over the Pup.... GULP!
Max, thanx Mate... I really love Mr Tim's sense of design. The man is an amazing artist, he makes some of the most beautiful sculptures.
IMHO, Mr Tim is one of the best art and design talents I have seen.... It was a joy to build this Bass off Mr Tim's design.
I am seriously thinking about having a modified version as one of my standard production models, named the "Dingo Custom Luthiers experience featuring Mr Tim's Bass of E#xtreme Sexiness" :)
But only if Tim agrees as it is his design afterall........
Just saw and Ormsby Bass... Unfortunately I only have enough cash to make an outrageously insulting bid on this one, so I might hold back...

Perry does make some stunning Guitars.... I got to fondle one of his Bass's at his show/ exhibition last year.... I cried for a week when I had to hand it back to him, it was simply the most beautifully built Bass I had ever picked up... Perry is a constant source of inspiration for me and my goal is to one day build an Axe that is comparable to an Ormsby..... Good luck with that, DB :)
It is a (admittedly far fetched) goal of mine to own an Ormsby one day, not that I could ever do it justice with my playing skills, I just want to be able to hold it and bathe in it's glory.
Stumbled across this luthier on the weekend. Christopher Woods. His guitars are great...

wow some beautiful axes there Brendan and Pablo. Yes everyone wants to own an Ormsby axe.
@ DB I think if you take your time and get some exotic timbers you can build an axe at about the same level but without the glossy naughty room clear coats he puts on. Would be good to have a crack at building a multiscale neck, any idea what the fret dimensions would be ?
That Mr Tim bass you showed me yesterday is a beautiful build !
Something simple, but gorgeous. A 1979 Fender Precision bass in Sapphire.

nice axes fellas, they just keep coming !
