Betcha the 2nd one there used to be the figurehead from the "good Ship Venus"... lol
I suddenly have an urge to play Cat Scratch Fever.
While this "log" guitar is a bit slightly. It's one of the most important guitars in history. Les Paul literally cut one of his archtop guitars in half and replaced the center with a log so he could mount the pickups to and reduce feedback. Or something like that.
Anyway, that is pretty much the first concept build of what latter became the legend that is the Gibson Les Paul.
I have to agree though, Gibson have come up with some real shockers.

The "Log" sure is historical... but all apart and naked like that... it's Ug-Lee! lol. I believe the amp was built into the section that is semi-disconected...?
A few more... Some famous, some just ugly & Po'! lol

Just jam a neck wherever you can! LOL!
Ah yes the the Pikasso guitar. Apparently Pat Metheny prompted this guitar by asking luthier Linda Manser "How many strings do you think it would be possible to fit on one guitar"Quote:
Ya gotta wonder what some of these guys were on. Just insane.
This one,
http://oi61.tinypic.com/ok9xjr.jpg
was built for Steve Vai based on his album cover.
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61XiaLg8qYL.jpgstill ugly though.
Ah yes, The Ultrazone Atrocity. I have a lot of time for Vai, but that instrument stretches the fandom.
Someone wanted to learn to use their scroll saw! LOL! Here's one I ripped off and "blended a bit"...Quote:

Minarik guitars have to be some of the ugliest, over the top, most uncomfortable looking guitars out there.

Hey, don't get me wrong, I love me some good inlay, but these are definite examples of 'too much of a good thing'.

Yamaha BX1 - check the ridiculous headstock apparatus
Yikes!
The BX 1 is a dreadful effort; trying to be headless on a bass with a headstock....
And Minarik... So much work for such awful results....
The worst thing about the BX1 is their bizarre solution to the double ball-end string issue.
It would save Minarik so much time if, he would just inlay wood.
Found this hideous effort while I was searching for movable pickup info.
The Wilkes "Answer" PUP system is pretty amazing, but this axe he made for a dude (Robbie Williams) with an unhealthy ego is just atrocious IMO.

Geez Max....Miss Fiona just threw up in her mouth.... ugly bugger with an even uglier Gui... Gui...nope.... thats to fugly to be called a Guitar..

I would love to play a six string version of the Hofner (lead) and I would give MUCH for a five string Hofner bass.... but NEVER EVER IN GREEN! bleckkkk!
When you've got 7 strings and 36 frets who cares what it looks like. Right?
http://i40.tinypic.com/14kf68k.jpg
Access right up to the top, but you would need some skinny fingers to play the right notes.

Completely hideous, looks like a prehistoric monster...Quote:

:D :D :D
That is the funniest thing I've seen all week!
Along the same lines, only 30 frets though.

I saw one of these in Canada and had to count all my fingers to make sure no-one had slipped me some acid.
The red Ibanez is very strange... and different... but I don't think it is /</p>[]</p>/ugly... per se... can we get a ruling on this one? lol

A Ruling? 8O ... yep, ok, - Ruled: it's UGLY! :D
... and not just plain ugly, or even damn ugly - its BUTT-UGLY!
(not that its my intention to offend to anyone personally, but sometimes the truth does hurt! - this one's got win "Ugly Guitar Post of the Month"!)
An exercise in stupidity (36 frets? - "phhtt"!) ... I hope Gibson sued his arse if only for the crimes of seriously wasting decent timber, bastardising an otherwise beautiful guitar shape and the general blatant travesty against aesthetics and good taste!
I vote to veto the inclusion of the 30-fret Ibanez, on the grounds of its electronic engineering alone. Despite appearances it has a five way pickup selector as there is a "phantom" neck pickup circuit to give a front pickup sound. It's quite a marvel and deceptively easy to play in the upper register.
Seriously contemplated buying this guitar.
An ugly solution to a non-existent problem.

Wow, where to begin? People describe me as an artist, I don't think of myself as that.......Here's a canvas that I've been drawing on for seven years. Huh?
Here's how I see the future of this product; this guy gives it to someone else to play. The first thing they say is "I can't seem to play chords". No one ever hears about it again.
Seems to be more important that you can look down the neck than play it... Seems to spend more time looking down the neck than playing it. OOpps just got to all music has to change because of this guitar... WARNING, once you start it's like when you hear tyres squealing outside - you're just waiting to see how bad it really is. This guy can't be serious can he? Please?
SRV and Dave Gilmour seemed to be able to cope with normal guitar necks....
This may be just me, and it may be cruel, but does "Bird of Prey" and "Klingon" come to mind for anyone else?
He makes a lot of fuss about being able to bend outwards, and play bends in chords....all the while ignoring the fact that any bend on a guitar with floating tremolo will take all the other strings out of tune.
Whoops.
At least they could turn invisible!Quote:

Strangely enough though (may be my inner geek peeking through) - I don't so much mind the look of the body - something unusual - it's almost enough to look past the honking great piece of duct tape and pretend pickup and silly looking freaky wide neck --- no scratch that, it does deserve to be in the ugly guitar thread!
