Hmmm... Lots of Strats means Strats on EBay maybe??? Chat with Popeye and see what will sell...
Hey guys, getting to some more sanding today, on the back, large(ish) dents keep appearing on the wood that don't want to be sanded out...
Glue is still persistent...

I reckon that glue is more persistent than Pest is at being a pest. You must be over sanding by now bro!
Haha yer, the sanding is really bugging me up, I was expecting to have some Wudtone on the body now, but sadly, that glie is preventing me...
just hang in there bro, you just have to keep persisting, you will beat this damn glue soon !Quote:

*sigh* eventually, probably not this century though (5 generations of Pests!)!!!
OH GOD NO! One Pest is more than enough! :D
OH GOD YES!!! :D
Pest - how goes the LP-1? Haven't seen an update for a while...
Well, the others would know that I'm in Advanced mathematics at school, which means i do Year 10 maths instead of Year 9 maths, so I'm a little bogged atm, i have done a bit of work though, picture will be up later!
No worries - just interested in how its all turning out - keep up the studies - they'll set you up for a lifetime of lutherie!!
Hey guys, time to make a decision!
I haven't done much with the kit in the last month, and I want to get it done fairly soon, as the time fo me to build my next kit (StratoPester, I have some pretty neat ideas that I have up my sleeve, DB and Wokka know!!!!), and I don't want to have the LP falling behind, so i've decided to do a test. I will apply just a little bit of Goldenrod to the glue area and see what happens compared to the side of the neck joint. If it doesn't look good enough, then I'll try 'dabbing' the GR to see what happens then
Fingers crossed for you - good luck!
The cutaway is where the glue is, it isn't the most interesting area of the guitar, so if there's a bit of darkness underneath the GR it might make it look a bit worn and faded maybe???
I think the term you are looking for is custom, unique or natural. No one will even know its there (apart from you).
Sounds like a real pain...
Yeah, it's a bit of a pain. About the uniqueness, wait until you see the finish!!! It will blow you guys away, it's my take on a Vintage Sunburst finish!!!!Quote:

Guys, WE ARE IN BUSINESS!!!

Should come up nice there
Must be very exciting!
Hey Pest, heard there was a flood of money on you finishing the guitar from 500-1, to 499-1!
At last, some colour appeareth on the Axe! will be following progress with interest.
Alright, so I went into the garage this morning and I saw that the cap is showing up a bit through the Dark Onyx :D !!!
But there are a few areas where it needs some touching up i.e. I might have been a bit too hard in some places, but I can see the blue tint coming up now, which I actually like!
I did the burst by using a bit of residual Dark Onyx in the lid after I gave it a little clean with the turps, and poured in the Goldenrod, which looks better than before!!!
I will start working on the sides today, then the back tomorrow!!!
EDIT: The DO looks like it should now, it's now blue-black, it looked like BMW last night!!!
Yep!!! Very exciting even though there is a fair amount of light and dark patches, i will go back to the top after the sides and back are finished!Quote:

Got a coat done on the back and sides last night, I did the Dark Onyx first, so when I cleaned it with the turps, there was a bit left, and that made the Goldenrod look rich in gold, which to me looked so much better than the GR itself!!! I accidentally forgot to steel wool the coat on the top to make the GR darker, so it now looks like I spilled something on it, I will probably fix it up today, pics up this arvo!!!
Here's some pics after I let the first coat cure for 2-3 days!!!!
Here's the back, the patches look worse than they really are, they look like a faded finish in the flesh, faded/vintage/aged is now what I'm going for!!!

Glue spot??? What glue spot????

There's a bit of discolouration on the top, I'll do some touching up soon...

Callum, I do like that you've gone for the colours of the West Coast Eagles, makes your guitar a winner before it's even finished. I also love that you've gone for something really different, individual and personal. I have to say it does look a bit messy, but I'm sure you can clean it up as you apply (and sand back) more coats.
NO!!!! WCE ARE LOSERS!!!! I'm a North Melbs. supporter... Stupid Nic Nat had to take a mark...
Anyways, yeah, the finish is something that I wanted to see on a Les Paul, the messiness is cause it's my first burst and my first time applying Wudtone, but it's looking good already!
Ouch, that must hurt, you probably don't want to see this then.

Adam, seriously???????
Majak Daw up against Nic Nat, Magic Door (hehe...) wins!!!!
Please, let's hope DB aint a WCE supporter, I don't want only Wok as a friend :)
It even worse than being an Eagles supporter.... GO COLLYWOBBLES!
That first Majak vs Nic Nat ruck contest was sensational. What a player Majak is. I hear Nic's Eagles team mates gave him heaps for losing that first ruck duel.Quote:

The blue is really showing in the Dark Onyx at the moment, it'll be interesting to see how it changes over the next few coats. Light/dark colour bursts are challenging to do with Wudtone, as I've found, and it takes a few coats and a lot of patience to really get the blending/transition to start to work. But, it's going to look great when you've finished it, and the reverse 'burst will definitely set it apart from everything else.
Not sure if your doing this, but one trick I've learned is that it is essential to use a different glove for each colour, otherwise you risk cross-contamination where you don't want it. At the start of each coat I lay out 3 gloves: one for my left hand which is just used to steady the body and not touch any Wudtone (unless absolutely necessary), and one glove for each colour for my right hand. Then, any time I switch between colours I also switch between gloves. It's a pain to do, and means using three gloves for each coat, but it saves pulling your hair out at the end when you realise you've left a black gloved thumbprint on your Goldenrod.
Yes Scott, I do use a new glove for each coat, the Dark Onyx patches were there from the towel and from when someone had to move it to get to the freezer, which is my Wudtone-area!
Tell them frozen goods are secondary, the finish is what's important!
haha, I should get a sign similar to DB's Tool Rule, but made for the LP while it cures!!!!
I think that the patches of Dark Onyx on the Goldenrod makes the finish even more unique than I planned, which to me, is awesome!
