haha yeah its a messy process the grain filling, but the results are worth it. Once you have sanded it back try not to rub a damp cloth over those areas as it tends to moisten the timbermate and it can come out

Attachment 20707timbermate sanded back and a wipe down with some gum turps and ready for some stain tomorrow night
looks good Barnesy was worth the grain filling. Should feel nice and smooth with your fingers
Attachment 20765stain coat done, gotta love a blue guitar

The ebony timbermate has definitely darkened the blue and stoped the yellowness of the basewood showing through

Noice! :D
A bit late, but for the truss rod cover you could have stuck 5 layers of veneer together (with the underlayers glued at an angle to each other for strength) to make up your own veneer ply.
Looking good.
Attachment 20794Attachment 20795Attachment 20796final intensifying coat, super happy with the colour. So far 1 stain coat which i kept rubbing in over an hour or so period unitil i ran out of stain, and then 2 intensifying coats. Still unsure about the quilted top and weather to go straight naughty oil or do a sanding sealer first
