Thijs, i envy your painting set up. What did you use to mask the neck pocket with?
Also it looks freaking epic just sitting there like that all shiny and stuff! Great job!

Nicely done Thijs! So no relic ;)
Fixed it!
Thanks! I’m very happy with the results.
I fixed the pictures. No idea what made them not visible, though…
Thanks!
I’m a real fan of the back as well! It’s a standard color we use at my work for staining furniture.
First thing that came to my mind was a boat or a yacht. They often have the same colors, with the darkblue bow, white cabin & a stained deck. Haha!
Haha! Thank you! The paint is still wet on the photos.
I just used masking tape, but I did spray over it a lot, so I had to be careful when I removed it again.
I painted it at my work. I work at a interiorbuilding company, which mostly produces interiors for hospitality like bars & restaurants. I’m a drawing artist there, but we have our own paintbooth which I could use to paint.
Thanks!
True, not a relic build. But I have catched the building-bug, so it won’t be the last one I’ll build. Therefore it won’t be the last one I would screw up. So I can make that into a relic.
I just wanted to make a clean guitar as a first build.
you recovered a bad situation nicely, i really liked that green dye its really deep green shame you had to changed to full colour nice job
very nice recovery mate, well done. That top colour looks great
Thank you all for your comments!
This weekend I started shaping the headstock. I noticed a Les Paul usually has a headstock laminated with a black piece of plastic or something. So I used a black piece of Formica ColorCore, which is a piece of solid HPL. normally used to laminate the working top of a barcounter. And it is a solid color, so you don’t see a seam of glue or resin.

Then I shaped it into a Les Paul headstock.
Note that there are still a few dried glue-stains on the laminate, but I will clear it later. And the laminate tends to be very fragile on the edges, so when I drilled the holes for the tuners/machineheads they cracked a bit around the edges. But that will be covered by the tuners/machineheads.

This week I will stain the headstock & put on some more layers of clear on the body & the headstock.
Link for the ColorCore. If anyone is interested...;)

Nice discovery, cool fix.
Gibson actually use a substance like a black fibre board , it's sort of like compressed cardboard...
Here is a link to genuine replacements
