Looking good chuck.
Personally, I like the original bridge. The new bridge looks a little too large, and makes the back end of the guitar look crowded.
Is the larger bridge at scale length in the pic? I like the larger size and shape of it but agree it looks too close to the pup in the photo.
Loving this Bass man
Tend to agree that the bigger 'Musicman' style bridge looks a bit large and detracts rather than adds to the overall effect IMO. It also looks more like folded sheet metal at the rear and you would have to wonder how that might affect sustain too. My vote goes with the standard unit or if spending more coin probably a Badass or Gotoh.
Pretty close to scale length - I checked because I was worried about how close it was. I'm with you: I want the larger one to work because it plays off the Bass VI nicely. But that close is a worry. I'll check again re scale and hope I made a mistake first time around!
You're right re the quality of the large one - it was an eBay cheapy. I've got Badass bridges on most of my other basses so maybe that's the smart approach - pity I can't find a mix between the mass of a Badass, but a slightly smaller version of the big one!
Edit: Raises bat to crowd as he takes a quick single to get to 100 (posts)
I've hit my first snag with this build - I finally went to put the white pickup covers I had ordered on the kit pickups and the magnets don't line up. A simple fix in that I've found some cheap complete pickups with white covers on ebay but it does mean a bit of a delay until they arrive. Still, I guess I'm in curing mode anyway with the gloss coats so not too much of an issue. As the stock kit pickups are a little different in size to standard j-bass pickups I should have seen this coming - just thought I'd mention it in case others ever plan to replace the covers...
I would like to add that the Entwistle PUP's are slightly bigger and the lugs for height adjustment and anchoring are more outbound from the centreline of the body which required additional reshaping body & pick guard to make them fit. Needless to say stock covers were not interchangeable due to this difference in manufacturing.
