After a lot of sanding I managed to get pretty much everything out and back to fairly normal, might have to try and stain the body again though. Luckily the top wasn't damaged, just the back of the body/sides.
There's teeth marks and a gravel rash sort of thing where it has been dragged, nothing too drastic though.
I'll try the wet cloth/iron thing and see if that helps at all. Thanks for all the advice guys, really appreciated!
doesn't look too bad Brett and thank god the spalted cap wasn't damaged.
if the iron and wet cloth doesn't work I'd fill the dents/teeth marks.
Might look like the axe has been gigged a bit but when you tell people a dog bit your bass that will be an entertaining story !
Haha, that'll be quite the story! The damage was more superficial than I realised, most of it sanded out fairly easily so I'm not so bummed out about it now

Does anyone have any experience with Dingotone? I put the first coat of the intensifying stuff on about 11 days ago, and it's still not dry. I put a very, very thin coat on, but when I touch it, the colour still comes off on my fingers. I've had it out in the sun, in ventilated areas, it's been pretty hot here lately, so I'm not sure what I've done wrong.
If anyone knows what might be up, or a way to speed up the drying process, that'd be much appreciated
Does it feel oily when you rub your fingers together?
If not, I would say that it is just some of the pigment that has risen to the surface.
With each coat, this should settle down.
Try gently wiping it with a soft lint free cloth to remove some of the surface pigment before applying the next coat.
Once you get a few coats of the final on this should stop happening.
With your previous question re the colour going a bit orangy, that would be the Basswood.
Being slightly green coloured it may have changed the hue slightly..

Thanks for the advice DB! I ended up just wiping it down, and I went over it with a really small amount of turps which cleared up everything, and didn't change the colour.
As this is my first time applying wood stain, I experimented with some different colours for the back. I went over it with a fairly dark water-based stain, which soaked really far through and made all the small imperfections in the wood show. This was a mistake originally but I ended up liking the look, made it seem sort of old and worn in, I guess. I then went over the back and sides with a Feast Watson stain (I forget the specifics) around 12 times, and that made it much darker and more 'natural' looking, for lack for a better term. I may go over the spalted cap with a little bit of the same colour to even it out, and so the sides and back don't clash as much.
It certainly doesn't look like a professional finish by any means, but I've ended up liking it (the main thing!), and I don't think anyone else I know will have one quite like it :cool:
Colour changes again.
So we've got the front - Feast Watson Maple stain over DT Coolangatta Gold, and the back - Feast Watson Mahogany over Feast Watson Maple over DT Coolangatta Gold. Phew! :cool:
I also picked up some Tru-Oil to use as a finish since I'd heard many great things, and it looks pretty good. Should be able to actually build it soon!
I just put a TO coat on my IB-6S, came back inside to check new posts and I see these photos and they could be of the one I was just working on. :)
