Thanks for the comments guys. Decided it was about time to start polishing this

Now to clean out the drilled holes to get ready to start assembly. While waiting for the clear to dry enough to polish, kind of went a bit silly and bought a pair of used pickups.

They came from the US so they should be the real deal. Tested them with the multi-meter and new they should be 13.65K ohms each (H4 and H4A passive) and they show13.23 and 13.32K respectively. Also did the tap test and both seem fine. :)

That's an awesome finish Grant! So which 'Tallica song will you first play on this?
-
Thats a fantastic finish. The Passive H4 and 4A will sound awesome. And would have to be creeping Death
-
I'd probably play Creeping Death, Enter Sandman, Master of Puppets, Seek and Destroy and Nothing Else Matters all in a row for an hour with those pups!
-
Wow, this axe looks fantastic what a great finish/burst and colour

Thanks guys, looking forward to making noise with this, whether it resembles a song or not is besides the point :)
Went to glue the neck in and the bottom of the neck heel wasn't flat all the way along, hadn't noticed this on other set necks I've done, so made a 1mm shim (at the thick end) to make sure it would sit in the right position. With shim in place the strings rested on the last fret with the bridge all the way down.

Shielded the cavity and did the wiring. The pups are 4 wire so used push pull pots to give coil tap and series parallel, just coz I had the bits to do it. Cavity is a bit cramped but all seems to work fine.
Attachment 6724
Still need to check frets for level, usual finishing off stuff and clean up and final polish.
