Those colours are awesome. This will be sweet!
CHANGE OF NAME....
For all of those that wondered what happened to this build, started then got an order for a scratch built Explorer guitar so this was put on the back burner. Have videoed some of the process and will get around to finishing it but I have about 1/2 a dozen guitars on the go now. Ditched the swirl paint job for two reasons firstly its too hard to do for a beginner ie for a beginner video, secondly when I finally got around to doing it the paint had gummed up and the consistency between all the paint was terrible... it will still have a swirl finish but will be a swirl wallpaper applied to the top similar to what fender did with its flowers and paisley guitars.
Some builds take forever and this one started in July 2014 it was my first kit guitar st-1 and was to be videoed as a 'how to' but then things changed...
Being a plain basswood body it was to have a swirl finish... probs with paint
Then it was going to have a wallpaper swirl... probs with wallpaper
Obviously this guitar did not want to be covered so this is what she looks like now...
Oh and she might be ready in another two years
Back of body is metallic purple, front has pyrography vine with purple highlights
no top coat yet
I think it needs to be finished sooner. Me likey
Just ordered the hardware for this guitar to finally finish it after 2 1/2 years!
It will have a black modified pickguard with one white hot humbucker in the bridge coil split with a push pull vol and one tone
Knobs are white, tuners black with white knobs, so will sort of be a tuxedo look
The fretboard will have paua shell dot inlays, will put some photos up when the hardware arrives
Hardware arrived today, will have to reshape the pickguard but should give you all an idea of what I have in mind.
Body has had a couple of coats of clear lacquer (not shown) will now start on the neck, I'm thinking I might refret so that will also make it easier to do the inlays
Interesting build. hope you finish before 2020
Neck inlays and a refret? I have a feeling this could still take some time. ;)
