Nice work I'm looking forward to seing this completed, I'm a sucker for explorers. I've got one of these myself and very happy with it, can't keep my hands off it it's well balanced to play and they just look awesome.
Enjoy the rest of your build can't wait to see the finished product.

thanks man. what kind of music do u play on it? do u think the stock pickups will hold up for drop tunings?
-
Andrew - looking amazing there mate - if you were going to stain and not spray, a little wire brush over any glue spots will help stain to penetrate. Best of luck!
-
thanks buddy. i think i'll stick to spraying this one. kinda have my heart set on a silverburst ex. i know its a shame to bury that grain but i promise the next one will be stained
-
No worries mate - you're right. I know what it's like to get a vision and then have that challenged by a nice piece of timber! Plus - gotta love a silverburst!
-
wow Andrew that grain is amazing. Sure the silverburst will look excellent

update first pic is of the masking for the faux binding

This is my solution to hanging a set neck. i'm not handy, have no band saw, so this is my mcguyver quick fix. its a 5mm d shackel attatched to a chain through the out put jack

the top of the chain is attatched to another d shackel, to a swivel onto a carabeena. you can then attatch it to the clothes line, or in my case, a dog collar on a portable clother hanger!

having a few dramas with the end grain on this ash kit. resorted to acrylic putty, gonna let that dry then sand it back, primer to seal it and hopefully it comes up trumps

A fellow McGuyver-rer ;)Great job with the primer. Looks super slick.

looking great Andrew, love the hanging technique. So are you putting binding on the body after the primer ?
Nice clean job on the neck !
