Thanks Sam, I sometimes think that my long winded build diaries bore people, but there is always someone new to the Forums and just maybe they may get something out of them. If nothing else, its OK to make mistakes.

Another full day, this time filing and rasping. I now have the body roughly in shape.

I haven’t started final shaping and sanding yet and will leave that until I have the body glued together.
Mistake #3. If I had cut the neck pocket the usual/standard size the guitar just looked wrong with an overly long 24 fret neck. So I recessed the neck further into the body to keep the whole standard LP Junior vibe going. It looks OK but now access to the higher frets will have to be addressed. I might have to make a compromise to the standard body shape, something I did not want to do.
I really should think more before I start a build. Lol.
Next job will be routing for pickups, control plate cavity and wiring etc.

I agree Frankie, thinking is sooo over-rated.
I fixed Mistake #3 by reshaping the profile of the lower horn a bit to get some access to the higher frets. I have still retained the general LP Jnr shape so its kind of a fix.

I also reshaped the heel of the neck to get a better transition to the body and that’s when I noticed…
Mistake #4. It’s not a biggie, but I shaved too much of the heel and now it has left a bit of a gap where the neck joins the body at the upper bout. I’m not going to worry about that just now and will wait till I have the neck screwed securely in place and see what I can come up with.

Next job is to route out the upper portion of the body for a chamber.
First I drilled lots (and I mean lots) of holes with a hand drill. This not only makes chiselling out the chamber a lot easier but I have also used a bit of tape on the drill bit as a depth guide so that I know how deep to chisel.

but then I get out my DIY router plane and try and smooth it out a bit more.

Do that on the front and back and cut a matching void on the middle ply layer and I now have a chambered guitar.

Only a quick update today. The problem with working on my back deck is that it is weather dependent. Looks like we might be getting some rain over the next few days, so not sure how much I will get done.
Now, not much point spending hours to chamber a guitar body if nobody else knows about it, so…..
Not exactly an “f” hole, but I’ve used this design before and kinda like it.

My next job will be to measure out the scale length so I can locate the bridge and then route out for the pickups and control cavity etc.
