Nah, it would just look like an undercoated incomplete axe. This one deserves a nice shiny finish.

I agree Waz, Matt White would collect handprints like Fifty Cent collects Bullets.......

All good this one will be shiny! I was just thinking about another plan for something else...

Looking very smooth! Nice job and a matte finish would be a good idea.

Now looking great, Andrew. Well worth the extra effort.

A small update.. You probably won't be able to see any difference in this photo but the corner below control route had an annoying 'bump' that was only ever so slightly visible at certain angles. It would have been amplified by clear coats so out with the sanding paper. The corner was smoothed back to the wood then re primed. I'm now happy with the primer and finally ready for finish coats.

I didn't realise how roughly cut it was...I had to break out the 60 grit just to try and get the edges even

So finally back to this project...

I wasn't happy with the neck finish so have applied numerous coats of Tru Oil to shine it up a bit more. Here is the result before cut/polish
