I had good success with my scrap testing applying timbermate really rubbing it in, then wiping straight off across the grain with a damp cloth. Rinse the cloth in bucket of water and keep going. Letting that dry then applied FW sanding sealer straight over the top without sanding. Once the sealer dried, then I sanded back to 400grit. My idea here was to preserve the filler and seal it into the grains without pulling too much out in the sanding process. We will see how that schedule goes on the body.

Keen to start sanding over the next few days to see what that reveals
First soak coats of TruOil on. I can see a few dust bunnies already, but will give it a run over with the white scourer and then maybe sandpaper depending on how it looks after a night. Was able to do the front and sides this morning and the back just now given the heat today in Melbourne, but I'm still going to leave it until tomorrow to do anything more given its the first coat.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...627e801de9.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...037dadb1c7.jpg
No update for a while . Tru oil Tru oil and more Tru oil. Neck is coming along nicely too, but can't reveal that one yet [emoji16]https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...41ae02d6cf.jpg
The red is just a reflection and the other funny looking bits in the horns are too
Tru Oil, Tru Oil, Tru Oil, level and repeat.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...0e0a006a06.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...88b9152548.jpg
BTW, I have found these great for single use application of a layer of Tru oilhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...722bfb80f4.jpg
But are they any good for removing make-up? *Asking for a friend.
Looks great!!!
Finally had a moment to change the spit roaster rack over to this build from doing the Strat. Super pumped to now be able to get the whole body done at once rather than each side at a time. Still in the slow Tru oil zone. Up to 2000 grit now, so a few more coats, another level and then will start cutting the TO with gum turps to get them shiney shiney coats happening [emoji3]https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...2b27845485.jpg
It's probably also time to reveal this headstock situation. Was going to wait for the finale, but ah what the heck. Have got a good coverage on the neck and fretboard, just in the process of burying the decal. Then will give it some gloss coats as per the body when it's time. Lots of nice natural chatoyance in this headstock too. From the photos there looks to be a dent at the end of the lower part, but that is just the grain making an illusion. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...88e8aad729.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...c514b7714d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...ac7cb43a29.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...4e1cc88d1e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...e395ed5924.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...bd8d7d4247.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...5b7447ff45.jpg
Whoah! very impressive chiselling...with a distinct sense of deja-vu.
Well done!
cheers, Mark.
Yup, thanks. Lots of sanding there [emoji3] Took inspiration from Andyxlh on this one...

Trying to show some of the grain on the neck. A little hard to capture in the given light I have at present...https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...fdfd58ae47.jpg
Looking good! Love the headstock!

First run over with the Ultimate compound. Ferrules installed and shielding done.ran a piece of wire thru the bottom to all routes so the shielding is all making connection. Still Tru oiling the headstock. Next for the electronics.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...dc9c01ceb8.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...5ec091c864.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...b9e14c71ee.jpg
Scored some Meguiar's polish today that my old man had in his garage as the next stage in finish. Win win, that stuff ain't cheap. Will do electronics and get everything ready for fitting before I try it though.
Looking good. That finish is looking nice & smooth. What will the polish add?
Wiring harness done tonight. 4 way tele style.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...8be9cfa97d.jpg
As I'm opting for no pickguard to show off the grain, had to knock up a mount for the neck pup.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...b1aa66bc21.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...c16727d956.jpg
Almost on the home stretch now. Frets levelled and crowned. Next it's assembly time.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...3e50cf456b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...c5a96b7961.jpg
I noticed something in your wiring, the orange drop. I just happened to come across this today. And it looks like it’s .47 capacitor.

Thoughts on this pickup cover I fabricated?
The wooden one hasn't worked out the way I wanted it too. Don't mind the black and chrome all offsetting each other. Just noticed I positioned the control plate backwards here too for the photo, whoops. It'll be traditional direction when mounted properly.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...780ee15025.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...9a44f273e3.jpg
Make a clear one, photograph the body beside the pickup rout and get it printed, stick it to the underside of the clear cover...
That's a cool idea, would have to get the scaling spot on.
Don't mind this one after a bit of fiddling.

Think it looks better than black. Looks huge, but not much room for screws. And it should darken up a bit once the Tru oil sets in.
She's finally complete!
Plays a treat, intonated well and stays in tune nicely.
Here's a quick sound demo, nothing special just running thru each of the 4 pickup configurations per riff/sound. Order is series, neck, parallel and bridge.

Good work! And it sounds great. And lovely playing too.
Interestingly I couldn't really hear much difference between the first three settings. The bridge sounded much weaker compared to the others but other than that really couldn't hear much change.
