It's been way too long since I've updated this!
Progress really speaks for itself:

Control cavity is next, and I also have a plan to fix up the botched ferrule holes - more on that later.

Just caught up on this and hope the left hand digits are healing properly and that you won't need to learn how to play left handed and re-string everything upside down.
All things considered, I've gotten off pretty lightly:

The keloid on my index finger is the most problematic. With any kind of pressure, it hurts. Hoping it will improve with time.

Wow, lucky no more damage was done.

Progress!

Control cavity is routed, with one minor mishap when the template went for a wander.

My double sided (my phone _really_ wants to auto correct that to double stuffed D:) tape has let me down so I relented to tacking the template down where the scratch plate will hide it. Thankfully, the scratch plate will also hide my patch job.
I was all set to start wiring, but my brain is goo. So a mock build instead:

Can't wait to lose that ugly protective film!

Looks cool man
Stunning! Hopefully it still works out as a no cost build after the Medicare rebate [emoji16] in all seriousness looking the biz though mate!
Really liking the shape of the body. Makes me think of a cross between an SG and a Jazzmaster.
More progress.
Here's something I love about my Marlique - it has a strat-style plug socket inset upside down on the tail edge. So I decided to test out my dremel skills:
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...17b23365eb.jpg
I roughed it out, and then used the old marker trick to identify high points.

It's not the prettiest underneath, but it works:

I've also drilled the wiring holes:

And lastly, I'm working backwards a bit, but in case I ever decide to make some brothers and sisters for this particular beast, I thought it would be prudent to make a template from it:

Solid work there dude
Getting closer and closer on this one.
I mentioned earlier that I made a meal of the ferrule holes. Trying to drill 10mm holes at 11.5mm spacing was never going to work, and it's taken weeks of experimenting to work out how to best hide it. Here's where I landed.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...46e1d566e4.jpg
The swirly block design took a few minutes, but then it took half a dozen attempts and way too long persisting with the 10mm holes to get it right. I tried some merbau scraps and some form of red gum both of which were too brittle, and eventually I landed on a plank of spotted gum tongue and groove flooring.
I used some decking nails as locator pins, and cut an outline with a scalpel thing:
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...ba2ad76129.jpg
Then, feeling brave, I used a dremel router stand my wife got me for my birthday to freehand the shape:

In hindsight, I should have posted to hog out, but here's halfway:
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...993bfc71d1.jpg
And at full depth, with a bit of trusty ebony timbermate to fill the wobbly holes:

Incidentally, here's the result of my lesson in router safety:
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...1b16cec965.jpg
And here's the spotted gum "inlaid", ready to be sanded back:
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...abf145da3a.jpg
My freehand lines aren't perfect, (and that little scar toward the bottom breaks my heart) but my plan is to wet sand with tru oil so the slurry fills the gaps. First pass is promising:

Also, subtle bevels:

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...edafb0067c.jpg
Next job, a whole bunch of sanding.

So I decided the bevels were too subtle, so now they're tuxedo bevels. I'm pretty happy with the state of things, so here's the first of many tru oil coats:

Really loving the way the timber looks. It has a bit of a tiger eye shimmer to it, and there's a nice contrast between the golden top and the dark honey of the end grain.
