As much as I detest the green that shall not be named, sometimes it fits. This could be one of those builds.
Must go punch self in the mouth now mkay bye

The belt sander has come out and this is the result. Wow this wood is hard! I'm happy that I got it nice and flat rather than curved as I think this is more in keeping with the body shape. No back of the body rout. That shape doesn't bother me, and I don't think it would suit as well.

Nice work Andy, the belt sander would have made it easier than a plane or a spokeshave!
Thank you FW!
Here's shot of a cheaply kit the family bought me to keep me busy over Christmas, I put the sunburst on the front of this. I still have some stain left. The other pic is the rustoleum paint which I think is a pretty close Seafoam. So now to decide, although I won't be able to paint until I get access to a drill press which has the reach to put the string holes through the body. We should have one at work in a month or so, so I'll have to wait to use that!
Now, who likes the seafoam colour???

Looks good, I really want to go all out on a tele with the body mods at some point.
That’s the exact product I used.

Just be aware that it will eat the rubber on guitar stands which then sticks to it.

That rustoleum takes months to really go hard, could that be why it stuck? I hang my guitars by their neck so that's not a risk. I like the colour!!!
Could be. I’ll clean it up and see if it does it again. I’ve added the pic above. I like the colour on this guitar too :)

How long has it been painted when it did that? I really do mean that they seem to take months to really go hard. I try to get the bits in the sun on very hot days to help. The upside is it is loads more durable than auto acrylic when it does set.
This is my experience as well. It takes a long time to properly harden, but when it does its great as a guitar finish.
Only a matter of days but what you say does make sense. Hopefully you’re right and once properly cured there is no problem with it.

Agreed, give it enough time and I'm sure you will be fine. I'd say at least two weeks before heavy handling, I give it that before assembly, but for polishing I think it needs longer.
About the colour........you do what makes you happy, its your project, we can make suggestions but in the end its still personal preference.
Thanks NB, you are right of course. Hot pink it is then.
I would donate for the paint to see that happen! Hot pink telestrat!
i could live with that...

Ooh, sparkly hot pink, one-upmanship, is it?!
Hi Andy, You will need lots & lots of tea to get any colour showing up as stain on a maple neck.
I used very strong concentration of Tea that was left to brew for a week on the Swampcaster (Build #5) and thank goodness I had the rust solution for it to react with because on its own there was not much happening. Coffee seems to work better on its own.
As always, testing on scrap timber is recommended, and please remember to gamble responsibly!
Cheers, Waz
Thanks Waz, I'll give it a go. I just want to take the whiteness out of the timber, not looking for a huge change really.
Hi Andy, I have dug up some before & after shots before adding the rust stain solution that hopefully give you some idea of how much stain effect Tea might have.....

This was before...

After whilst still wet....

24 hours later once fully dried.
Hope this helps in some way.
Cheers, Waz
Perfect, thank you! I'm thinking of staining the neck except for the front of the Tele headstock shape to make it stand out a little more. A subtle change would be best.
Ok I have let the side down... this is what I did this arvo. Four colour sunburst, teak, jarrah, mahogany, black Japan using my trusty Aldi airbrush kit, a bargain at 100 bucks!
So no hot pink with this kit... I'll just have to wear it while I play instead.

Never heard of them, but they look good!
Is the sunburst on the Les Paul sprayed or cloth applied?
Looks great!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok first coat of poly, I tend to do the first coats in satin as I'm less likely to bugger it up and it goes off quicker and sags less. Final couple of coats will be gloss.
The horrid smudge under the bridge was the result of me trying to fix something badly. Luckily completely hidden when complete!
Attachment 25714
I used my trusty Aldi airbrush. You can see it in one of the pics. Feast Watson prooftint stains. Thanks!
Here's a shot of the back. A bit darker than the front as I did the front first and had some dark overspray near the centre of the burst when I turned it over.
Attachment 25715
Oops sorry didn't read your post correctly! The LP burst is 2 tone only, teak to mahogany, applied with the same airbrush. A super cheapy kit the family bought me to keep me quiet over Xmas... but it actually plays ok! There's a better pic of the front of it somewhere else in this thread.
After a couple of coats of clear. I did use sanding sealer on it, but clearly not very well! There's still huge pits in it from the pores, although I'm sure I can solve that with many thin coats of clear.
There's a few stuff ups in it as you can see from the filler marks, I broke 2 scratchplate screws off in it even though I'd drilled pilot holes... not sure if I was too gung ho, the screws were chocolate or the timber was really hard. I'm thinking all three. Luckily all of the stuff ups are completely covered when assembled, got away with is so far!

The Ash grain contours look OK to me and add some character.
Quick mock up as the Entwhistle pickup arrived today. Happy with the burst finish, only in satin currently but I'm thinking I might keep it that ways as it shows the grain nicely. Gotta get some more coats on it to get it nice and flat. Very interested in how this will sound...

Looking nice. Keeping the middle pup cover white?
Still time to go for an all-over hot pink. ;)
What? How can anything be better than pink?!
It could still be yours...
Attachment 25863
Thinking of keeping the knob and cover white I kinda like the contrast and difference with the other colours, and they are also the only ones I have... one of each pickup, black, white, chrome...
Ooh u know that makes sense. Bit purpley though. Perhaps more this?
Attachment 25864
Nah, the lolly pink looks better.
Ok. Just got to work on the hair. Not sure I have enough left.
