That's a lovely result and good call on the satin finish, it really suits. On the back of your tuners it looks like you still have the protective stickers on the circular bits :)

A very Pro looking 5 string bass build there Overlander. So many things to like and only that one something that you'd find on almost any new axe to dis-like...
Very well done ..
Morning all, Its always tempting to hold off and put it in next month, but every month is awsome so whats the point.
What is it. Its my TL1 Custom. Was a factory order that arrived missing the veneer that was asked for so I picked it up fairly cheaply. Must admit its driven me a bit nuts, I felt like launching over the fence into the bush a couple of times, sure most folks have been there.
From top down,
Grover locking tuners
All parts Graphite Nut, which I haven't sized or glued yet, will see if I want to keep it.
Dingo Tone (original) Neck finish, Plus TO
Blue Colourtone stain plus lots of TO
Tonerider Hot Classics
Wilkinson Bridge
4 way switch, N, N+B (parallel, normal), B, N+B (in series)
Fender knobs, cause they just feel better.
Cheers

I have to agree Rossco, doesn't matter when you enter as there is always some seriously good builds.
Here's my effort for this month. My 3rd build and definitely the one I've put the most time into.
SG-1
Customised Grover Tuners
Custom Truss Rod Cover
Lace Alumitone Pickups
Gotoh Push/Pull volume pots that switch either Humbucker to single coil
All Parts Chrome Knurled Knobs
Stock bridge, nut and Tail Piece - to be upgraded at some point, but are actually quite nice anyway.
Ernie Ball 10's
Finish is Black stain, red fountain pen ink, black stain again then multiple coats of Septone clear top coat and about a million hours of cutting and polishing.
All the trials, tribulations and more pics in the build diary if you haven't checked it out.

I read the description and saw 'Black Cherry' and thought "wtf??"
And then I looked at the pictures and went "OOHHHhhhhhhhhh...........Wow!"
I certainly don't envy the judges this month every build here deserves to be a winner.
I reckon we are going to have to send our judging panel on a nice quiet holiday after this month, what a set of entries and the month ain’t over yet.....
I haven't spent a lot of time with them yet, but first impressions are they are really bright and high output. I want to sit down and do a comparison with the alincos in my Hagstom. So I'll do that when I get the chance and try and do a vid. It was actually your guitar that inspired the purchase, so you are an influencer on this build for sure.
Nice looking build. If you want to add more pics you need to use a hosting service like Imgur instead of the forum uploader.
This is how I do it:

Glad I'm not a judge, the work this month is about as good as it gets.
High standard again this month guys, all look awesome.
An RCM-1 kit with the following mods:
Replaced stock tuners with black Grover locking tuners.
Replaced stock plastic pickguard with hand made Eucalyptus wooden guard (grain was filled with Timbermate Jarrah)
Replaced stock tailpiece with black open trapeze
Replaced stock bridge and posts with black rollermatic bridge
Replaced stock jack plate with black version
All chrome screws replaced with black ones
Humbucker pickup covers spray painted black
Fret markers on neck were removed and filled with epoxy resin with glow powder. Strings are Elixir Polyweb 10s
Replaced stock strap knobs with locking versions.
Body and neck were grain filled with Timbermate Mahogany, top filled with Timbermate Hardwood and then all sanded back to 1500 before finish of 6 coats of Feast Watson clear varnish in matt, applied with HVLP sprayer.
Have to say I'm a mite pleased with this one though for some reason I can only add 5 photos.
Oh, and it plays well too!
Very nice gamahucher
Entry from Mango -
My username is "mango" and I have just completed my first build, a PRS 1TS and I would like to enter it in the guitar of the month comp. please.
I don't think it is of the same standard as a lot of other entries but it will be good for me to get some feedback. I have upgraded to Grover locking tuners, PRS pickups, CTS pots and orange drop caps. I airbrushed the burst on the top and finished with two pack and stained the back in cedar and finished in polyurethane.
Extra photo with the herd...
Very nicely turned out axe mango, I’m fond of the PRS shapes and I really like what you did with the burst. Great job!
Don't underestimate yourself Mango. That is a great burst.
Oh damn, that is NICE!
Yep very nice Mango, you've just made it harder again for the judges.
Agreed, that is a fantastic job on the burst.

Killer guitar Mango
Very nice Mango that burst looks really good [emoji106]
That beautiful piece of guitar deserves to be in GOTM contention as much as any of the others. I really dig it. Hats off to you
Mmmmm Mango-Burst
Just a few more photos to show off
That is super clean man, the black hardware contrast against the paler wood grain is tasty. Wonderful job mate.
Yeah, that's really nice!
Comp now closed - will start up March soon!
So comments on the guitars...
Liam Marksby's ESPM-1: A well implemented build. Bone nut, replacement bridge pickup (very important in this style of guitar) and straplocks (again something I'd consider a necessary improvement on this guitar shape). It certainly has a certain wow factor to it from the paint job. I'd have liked to have seen a build diary. Lack of any headstock decal, or even modifying the truss-rod cover knocks off some points as well.
A truly amazing finish. There is a bit bit of "orange peel" showing in the flash reflections but that doesn't detract from an incredible paint job.
Wild paint job, but producing a strangely clean, sharp and refined look. And the colour appears to change from every angle. Really nice result.
Very cool marble effect, suits the shape of the guitar nicely. Looks like the neck could have used a bit of masking, but otherwise a tremendous effort.
Liam really nailed the paint work on this one, it suits the style perfectly.Pretty nice job for a fisrt build, I bet that Darkstar sounds great.
love the paint job, cool effect.
Very wild and aggressive look that suits this shape. Not sure what colour it is as there is a bit of variation going on across several photos. Just needs a headstock logo.
Looks like a shred machine, great job on the marble look
piRoN's DM-1s: Nicely put together and has made the most of the spalt by keeping it simple. Well considered upgrades and it looks a lovely guitar. Again, no build diary, a lack of truss rod cover modification and lack of a headstock decal knocks off some points for me.
Your great job oiling this guitar made the most of one of some of the most gorgeous pieces of wood to come out of the factory.
The Danish Oil really does justice to the spalt and grain on this build, and the black hardware tops it off nicely. Just beautiful. Good choices for the upgrades and overall a very tasteful elegant build. Excellent.
How to outdo Dedman on his signature model....sorry DM. Beautiful handling of the spalt and opposing hog. Nice upgrades. A complete package.
What great taste in kits :P I love how you have kept the natual timber look, it works so well with the black hardware and binding. Nice hardware upgrades and nice choice of pick up. Keeping it simple really pays off.
Love these kits and the spalt. Nicely finished
Yummy understated elegance. Spalted top and headstock look great and forgiven for no logo as that would have hidden too much of that precious grain. Stock Truss Rod Cover looks a bit too angular and a bit of rounding off to match pointy headstock profile could be a simple mod to get around to one day.
the clear coating has come up a treat, looks like it would make you want to pick it up and play
Ozo's ES-1: Great sunburst on the front of the body, and a really nice gloss finish all over. Painting the binding black is a nice individual touch. The flame could have been brought out a bit more evenly, with uneven sanding of the first dark stain coat, but I'm having a similar issue with my own ES-1, so for a 1st build I can't really say too much about it, but it does knock a little bit of the 'wow' factor off it for me. I'd have preferred a sunburst on the back as well, and I don't thing the solid red headstock goes that well with the sunburst. Again the standard kit TRC.
A stunning finish on the front. I feel like the back and sides could have been more crimson and less orange, but I know that sometimes the guitar has other ideas.
Love the dark burst of the top and it works really well with the gold hardware. The red of the back and neck is beautiful but a little too bright for me compared to the top, but part of that may be the camera/lighting. A really nice looking build.
Ooh! An ES with black binding! Superb finish, very well kitted out. The solid red on the back is a touch too bright for my tastes but oh so well done. Black pickup surrounds would suit this one better, but lovely none the less.
One big red toffee apple! Is it wrong that i want to lick it? Lots of work gone in to get that finish and its paid off. Again, a great first build.
Awesome finish for a first build. well done
Super shiny dark & stormy red burst top looks great. Well complimented with gold trimmings, including truss rod cover screws. Just not a fan of the stock TRC on this kit.
not easy to put one of these together, thats a great looking burst and got a great shine
Overlander's IB-5: This certainly has the wow factor. Nice simple extra touches with the carbon fibre style covers and a lovely looking body with the most made of the wood grain. I could easily see it hanging up in a guitar store for sale. A good build diary and even a custom headstock decal, very slight knock-back as the decal's damaged.
Love how this one has come out. The carbon fibre plates are inspired.
The IB-5 is a beautiful looking bass, and this is no exception. A somewhat restrained finish with nice carbon fibre additions really work well with the grain and hardware. Smooth and tasty.
Very tidy work. Everything in it's right place. Super cool carbon fibre plastics. Action looks a tad high, might need a shim in the neck pocket.
Yet another outstanding first build. Overlander has really bought out the natual beauty of the timber and adding the carbon fibre control and truss rod covers just adds that contrast that makes you look again. Well done.
Nicely finished IB-5 good effort
Great score with the Ash grain on top that seems to match in quite well considering there were probably 3 or more planks used to make it. Colour choice and grain fill have enhanced the grain brilliantly. Carbon fibre bits are a nice touch too.
done a really good job of popping the grain on the ash body,
RosscO's custom TL-1: Some nice hardware upgrades. Rear strung like a Tele should be. Plus points for a custom headstock logo. The body colour looks a bit washed out to me. It's sort of denim-ish, but not quite. It would have looked a lot better in that colour if the kit had come with the intended quilt top. Would work better IMO if the neck had more of an amber tint to it. No extra points the for rear-stringing as it came like that. I'm not a great fan of Teles without pickguards so that drops some of the wow factor. Nevertheless, a good guitar, just not for me.
Impressive blue stain. I love all the customisations. Pity the string trees are over the decals.
The brushed demin works nicely with the contrast of the maple neck. I find it a bit of a creeper colour, at first you think hmm but then mmmm yumm. A real worker Tele. Nicely reversed plate plus choice hardware and electronic upgrades. It's a shame the string trees obscure the headstock logos. Nice build.
Awesome denim blue! Nicely done classic tele options with some great personal touches. Shame the logo ended up where the string trees had to go.
Not your average tele and Rossco found out that doing stuff "not average" can lead to hair pulling and head/bench contact All part of the fun and well worth it in the end. I really like the denim blue and no pick guard look.
Cool looking tele, love the colour scheme
Beachcaster says it all with faded blue denim look and golden sandy coloured neck. Very hard to get a good result using blue on Basswood under Tru Oil and still keep it looking blue. Well done. Lots of nice upgrades and reckon this should pump out some pretty cool surfer vibe tunes.
nice faded denim look, looks like it was a lot of work to get the finish
Sonic Mountain's SG-1: A lot of thought and effort has been put into this guitar and the result is stunning. Lots of custom touches and a highly polished cherry black finish. Nothing to fault. Not quite convinced about the pickup choice having now heard them, but that is a minor and personal issue. As kit guitars go, this has the lot.
A scarily good finish on a guitar constantly blessed by serendipity. I'm jealous of what you have been able to achieve with this guitar.
Great looking build... black, but not. Excellent finish, refined, good hardware choices and electronic upgrades. TRC may be a bit OTT for my taste, but works nicely with the build. Classy result (and shiny).
Very very nice paint work.Great upgrades, rescued from a near disaster, it has all the hallmarks of a blockbuster. It's the details like the truss rod cover and the oh subtle "not really black" stain job that don't scream at you but just add to the total look that makes it great.
Ok, I loooove the colour. That hint of red showing through is fantastic. Stunning finish work paired with high quality upgrades. Couldn't ask for much more. Gimme.
Love the colour and mirror gloss finish. nice hardware upgrades too
Absolute stunner. Funny how things that don’t always go to plan can end up looking much better than you envisaged. Nice upgrades too.
the red coming through the black sets this of in the sunlight with a great glossy finish
gamahucher's RCM-1: Certainly a bold departure from most RC-1 kits with a lot of extra effort involved! Gamahucher has certainly made this a unique guitar with a stylish wooden control plate. For me this isn't really working, the parts are greater than the whole. No build diary (which would have been nice) and an unchanged paddle headstock (which we would have suggested something be done with had there been a build diary). It's not to my tastes at all, so no wow factor from me. I'm struggling with the extra effort and care involved against a finished guitar that doesn't look right to me.
Great job. I would have loved to see the headstock shaped.
Woody and a different but very tasty RC. Clean and seemingly simple, but refined. It's a shame that some grain pieces don't as well as others, but it doesn't really detract. I would have liked to see the headstock shaped, but it doesn't look out of place on this. I like it.
Oh yeah, black hardware really sets off against the natural wood finish. Great choices. Well put together. Nice touches.
Nice subtle natural tones on display. Like the Eucalyptus scratch plate and would have preferred to see the same used for truss rod cover too. Spray painted PUP covers look good and have to wonder how long they will hold up once played regularly.
Some great natural timber finished guitars this month and gamahucher takes it one step further with a timber pickguard.Very refreshing to see something a bit different done with an RC kit.
Nice wooden pickguard but no headstock shaping
got a nice natural finish, the wood pick gard setts it of nicely
Mango's PRS-1TS: Great sunburst finish with a lovely gradual blend of colours. Nice hardware upgrades. A very fine first build and things can only move forwards from here. The Gibson style headstock doesn't quite work IMO with the PRS body (unless he was aiming for a LP DC type look, which really would require some slight reduction in horn size to get right). Maybe I'm being a bit harsh, as the pre-drilled headstock limits what can be achieved to make it more PRS like. Still, some more original design would have been nice to see. The finish is more of a rough semi-gloss, and really requires a bit more work. it should really be as flat and shiny as Ozo's ES-1. Even if satin, it really could be a bit smoother. Minus points for no truss rod cover fitted or headstock logo (and really the entry rules have been broken as there is no dedicated headstock picture). Still, the wow factor is high with this.
One of the best bursts we've had for some time. A really impressive job.
What a beautiful burst, love it! The colour of the back and neck work nicely with the top, and I really just like everything about the overall look. Good upgrades, and just wow. Well done.
Wow factor achieved!! Phenomenal burst! Seriously impressive looking guitar. Would love to add this one to my collection.
Thats a really nice burst job, very PRS in style and colour. Great upgrades too, the standard of first builds this month is staggering and this one is no exception.
Lovely sunburst finish it came up a treat
Calypso Mango coloured burst on top is very lush. Would have liked to see similar extended to sides and rear. Tasty upgrades and top effort for a first build.
really nice looking burst , whole guitar is well finished off
So - to the runner up - well done to Mango - the PRS-1TS is pretty impressive.

And the winner - by popular vote - congratulations to Sonic Mountain... your SG is immaculate and no-one could find anything to fault on it. Well done!
