Wet sanding is when you dip the Wet & Dry sandpaper in water so that it lubricates things and prevents the paper from clogging and wearing out quickly as that is what happens when used dry. Best to add a drop of dish washing detergent (morning fresh, palmolive, etc) as that helps to soften the water, same as conditioner in shampoo for hair.
I would start with 1200 grit, then step up to 1500 and eventually 2000. 1200 can be bought at any large big box hardware store but you will need to go to an auto accessory store for 1500 & 2000....think Autobarn, Bursons, Supercheap, etc.
