But your Sierra is Red???
Mate, let's face it, the Gretsch shape is more Valiant than Ford or Holden so any colour goes......except pink.
I can live with Mopar. I was looking at a Hillman Minx the other day, thinking it looked cool, so I guess anything goes!
And now I have locked in the colour!

It'll take a long time to work on the finish, so I'll start on the neck as well. I've knocked off the plastic nut and straightened the fretboard ready for filing and dressing the frets.
nice one Swanny love the colour suits the kit !
For some reason when i look at the front shot there Swanny, I see a midnight blue graduated burst on those edges....not sure it would work but it looks sick in my minds eye at least!
Nice job Swanny. Love the colour
The front is going very slowly...

Damn that's a purdy looking piece of art
Looking very good! I love that color :)
Cheers guys! I'm still working out the best way to use True Oil, it's the first time I've used it. I'm torn between slapping on thick coats and rubbing it back, thin coats and rubbing back less often, putting it on thick on problem areas and rubbing them back... so far it's been about eight thin coats, and rubbing back once, with wet and dry in True Oil.
To me, what your doing is the way to go. rubbing the oil in with the wet and dry should fill the grain the more you do it. Keep going, it's looking great
Love the colour....go Queenslander!
More apply a coat, wait, apply a coat, wait, sand with wet and dry, apply a coat, wait, apply a coat, wait, sand with wet and dry, apply a coat, wait, apply a coat, wait, sand with wet and dry, apply another coat, very fine steel wool, apply another coat. It's getting closer to being good enough.

I've also cut out a stencil to paint a logo on the headstock.
Looks very nice Swanny
Thanks, Barnesy!
Since where both doing the same guitar it's interesting the different look of the grain, ive done an ebony timbermate grain fill , youve done a black stain. They both look great but 2 different ways on the same timber
I did a bit of a mock up before I have to head off to work this arvo, I'm liking what I see!
Next is to finish off the sides and back.

Yep top notch indeed. You must be stoked
Looks awesome.
Thanks guys! Still a long way to go, the part I'm stressing on is getting the logo on the headstock right, and how to get it there to start with. Sonic... your Shoegazer gave me an idea that I'm going to try out.
Damn swanny, I wouldn't have been able to resist the mock up either
I'm hoping there's one of these in my future! This looks great, nice colour and great shine too.
More coats of oil have been applied to the back and sides before work this morning with a bit of wet and dry sanding, and they're not looking too bad. The wife is disappointed that I didn't do the body the same colour as the front, but I wanted a different look.
I guess I'm at the stage where I should get some shielded cable for the wiring. I have a work mate who loves his Gretsch's and his rockabilly band, and he's told me about all these wiring options out there for the extra controls on this model. I have to pick his brain, compare to the diagrams on here, plus Weirdy's suggestions.
I thought I'd try something different for the logo. Print out the logo, cut out the individual letters, spray paint them silver, glue them to the head stock, cover with True Oil. Many more coats to follow!

cool effect Swanny that looks great
Thanks Wokka, if it turns out crap I can sand it back and try something else.
I started on the wiring today, after polishing became the opposite of fun. I've ordered some some braided shielded cable, which hasn't arrived yet, but I had some left over from my first build to make a start.
