Good for you. And I do mean that.
And good luck with the new guitar!

Getting back to the build....do you have to re-rout the pp cavities for the P90's?
they are jazz master pickups which are wider and thiiner than P90's Andy, they mount to the body, it will only be a couple of mil each side Which will be doable with the dremel
Sweet sweet growl
As I have some spare Jazzmaster pickup covers, here's the difference between a Jazzmaster pickup and a P90. They do take up a fair bit of real estate! They also have external fixing lugs, like a Jazz Bass pickup, which means that they aren't really suitable for trying to retrofit to a humbucker routed guitar where the neck humbucker is right against the end of the neck. But Dedman's guitar body is fine for these.

yea fortunately there is a huge swimming pool and a lot of pick guard :)
Do they sound like P90's or more like a humbucker?
more spikey like a P90 and a lipsticks love child ;P

Plentiful surf vibes happening there.
Slightly less of a midrange hump than a normal P90 has, but pokier than a Strat pickup. The fact that a P90 has bar magnets underneath the coil and steel screw polepiece slugs gives a lower resonant peak for the pickup than the Jazzmaster's Alnico V pole-piece arrangement does. Also, the JM pickups have a thinner, wider coil than a P90 does, which will change the sound as well.
In my picture with the P90 and JM cover plate in, the pickups in the Les Paul Melody Maker shown are actually Gibsons 'P90S' pickups, with Alnico V polepieces, so they do sound more like a JM pickup than a normal P90. You should be able to see thet there are no height adjustable slug screws. The LP MM is a very slim guitar, so allegedly hasn't quite got the body depth for full P90s (though it still is mahogany with a maple cap), so by using magnetic polepieces, they saved about 4mm of magnet and securing plate in the depth of the unit.
Clear coats done. She now sits until Pabs sends me some pick guards and I take them to my local printer. After the fit out I'll polish it.

nice colour Dedman, this has got a Bigbsy trem hey ? Should be a pearler axe !
Yup Wokka! Cheers!
and I'm sure you got some nice pups to go in. Any fancy controls like the 3 small switches ?
nup, just a 4 way going to wire it like a Tele, single tone and single volume. the pick ups are just GF Jazzmasters. Don't have a huge budget atm.
mmmmm surfy
Love that color. Your painting skills are top notch. Are you using hvlp gun or rattle cans? Love your builds..
Hi Drummer Dude. I use a small suction feed spray gun and a really small direct drive compressor., paint is auto acrylic, I just waste their time while I go through countless colour cards till I find something I like or make the colour in photoshop and take the Pantone code to the paint shop.
Glad you like what I do,thanks very much, it's all good messy fun :)
both bodies ready for final polish. Neck of the JM is finished, still need to do some fret work and install a nut on the strat. Pickguard for JM is cut out (by Pabs)...now to the printer with it!

mock build looks great Dedman, what sort of print is going on the pickguard or is that a surprise ?
Mick's B & W pics have rubbed off on you !
this is going on the back of the clear acrylic

ah wow that will look very cool. Didn't know the pickguard was transparent as it's still got the protective paper on it.
that's going to be a mega surf-stang hahah
Not a big JM fan, but this is going to look awesome with that wave pick guard. Look forward to seeing the finished product.
Wow Dedman that is a big tease a mockup of that beauty in black and white.. It's amazing how color changes our perspectives.. can't wait to see that one.
Almost done but close enough to call finished . Just needs intonating and strap buttons, I also put a small chip in the paint on the edge of the neck cavity that needs touching up.
Thanks again to Pabs for the custom shaped clear pick guard and RW Promotions for the reversed sticker on the back of it.
Might cut a coil or 2 out of the Chinsby spring as it sits a bit too high.
What does it sound like? no idea, ask me tomorrow, it passes the tap test but I haven't plugged it in yet.

Surf's Up! Nicely done mate, love that scratchplate.
nice one Deddy came up a mc-treat
plugged it into the Orange Micro with a Boss Reverb and a Mooer trem, the waves just rolled in :) Great sound. Really sold on those pick ups, a much fuller sound than the bucker sized P90's in my Les Paul and not as chimey as a Tele single coil, more presence than most of my humbuckerer equipped axes. Will plug into the Vox tomorrow and try some dirt on em. :D
Nice one Dedman and I just love the pickguard!
Lovin the colour scheme Deddy.
Fantastic Dedman that is killer.. makes me think of The Beach Boys..
question when you engrave the neck mounting plate do they have to re-chrome it?
Great job what's next?
Thanks Drummer! The neck plate came that way( ebay), but it would depend on the quality of the chrome. Old school proper chrome has Copper, then nickel , then chrome. You can engrave into that and not get down to the bare steel, modern chrome gets a quick dip in the chrome so as soon as you mark it it's through to steel. However if you cut one out of stainless steel.............

Lipsticks a Dusenberg, tikitape and a pushpull. Can't quite make out the machine heads through the plastic.... what is he up to this time??
Tiki's are head stock stickers I had printed when I got the Jazzy pick guard done. Tuners are just Grovers......3 a side ;)
Dusenberg trem. Looks great. Only just seen them appearing on a few guitars.
