Got it!..... not that any one lost sleep but I had to re-flow the solder joints in the pickups.
FYI I used lead free solder which takes a bit more heat and I was a bit wussy because of how thin the 42AWG plain enamel pick up wire is joining the leads to the coils.

So how much does a set of pickups cost you to make?

I'd be rapt at achieving this by cobbling something together with my own hands.
