that's it HB, with the amount of forum members these days there is usually someone that can answer the curly questions !
I cracked up laughing at "Neck smells like a Footy boot". Can't wait to see how this one turns out!
Cool to read about waxing the pickups. Do you find you get any problems later on with the wax dripping or running on a hot day? Do you clean some/most of it off after? How?
Nice one.
I can assure you the neck is Rock Maple. Not the first time I have seen a dark chunk of RM.
The colour usually comes from the soil the tree grew in, different trace element concentrations can cause this to happen.
thanks for clearing that up DB, I thought the grain looked like maple but haven't seen rock maple that dark. I have seen it slightly lighter than that.
You basically clean it while it has just come out of the wax, pretty easy as still quite warm. I just use a old clean rag, wipe the base , tops etc. Really what you are doing is filling the inside of the pick ups, if you were doing humbuckers, I suggest taken the covers off and resolder. Regards melting never happened, but if you playing is a Sauna it might, of course not sure why you would but hey live free. The temp has to be up around 50 C with that said if you left your guitar in direct sun for a while, a long while it might.
Thanks DB clearing it up but, I coulndt br happier with the contrast of the Dark Maple against Light Maple Fret board, see attached neck stain with boot polish and first coats of DingoBass clear coat, photos dont do it justice.

Thanks DB, as said below Brilliant grain and colour,
Damn, that looks great Badger!!
Oh My! That is wonderful work HB. Absolutely super result.
I know when I started this build had a few ideas, but I realised once the guitar arrived I let the wood guide me sounds funky but I thought I would let the character of the timber speak, kinda reveal itself as opposed to me imposing my view on it. So its taken on a Accustic Guitar Neck look, which I love as I wanted the timber not to be 'choked'.
nice one HB that neck is looking a treat. Build up a few more clear coats and it will look unreal
THX Wokka, thats 2 very thin Al'A Dingo base Turtorial coats on it,
Once again thanks, for the compliments. But also as said earlier I lucked out with the neck Timber, Dark rock maple neck against a light maple fret board. The amount of flame in that timber!!!! I have a 2010 Fender Maple neck strat and this kit neck rivals it too no end. BTW I see from your Project list. Finish coat fail.......SAND THE FLOOR.... SAND THE FLOOR.
Did the same on the body of this build, back to sanding..............
thats it Franken, wonder if you superglued sandpaper to your shoes and walk and slide around the floor would work ? would be more fun than other sanding techniques hahha
haha good idea Franken, maybe get the adhesive sandpaper and just park your jandals on them and remove for the next grade
Finished the neck now waiting 2 weeks to cure...Wasnt going to label the headstock but decided to go with the Pit Bull, happy with the result.Attachment 13112Attachment 13113Attachment 13114
Mock Build.....Couldnt resist...Note to self stop touching the finish..

Looks great HB. What did you use on the neck as a finish?
Looks great.
Was in a music shop a couple of weeks ago and there were 2 Fender Strat Custom Shops with maple necks & fret boards with a darker finish but yours looks much better and I guess way cheaper than the $4k to $5k price tag they were wearing. Reckon a tin of nugget would still leave change out of $10 bucks.
Thanks Waz, nice compliment. The body is the next challege, the quilted maple top took the DingoTone Blue OKAY but on the Basswood body the timber took on a green tinge, so I scrapped that idea and sanded it back, toying with the idea of a slightly Orangs tinge on back and sides as orange on opposite side of the color side for blue Or migh try to color match to neck using Darker Nugget,,,Wont know for 2 weeks whilst body top cures.
Why not use some Blue Nugget Boot Polish to tie in with the neck?
Alternatively I was only thinking earlier today just how good an all over Tan or Darker Brown Boot Polish would look if I was ever to build a more natural looking beast, based purely on the great job you have done with that neck.
On each of the 3 basswood bodies I have built the necks were stained same colour as the Basswood body and Maple Neck as they were of a similar light shade and reckon if you did same colour toned boot polish it should come out pretty close. Always best to start out lighter as you can always go darker whereas the other way around usually ends up with lots of sanding back to try again.
Make sure to tell us how it works out.
Hey Waz, trying a test patch DARK TAN on the body today...NO Blue Nugget exists..Keep you posted...Earlier indications got me thinking a Black coat sanded back then finished in dark tan...The body you speak of is a classic Gibson Les Paul job...Front is a burst/color and neck and body sides match..Got time and Nugget costs $3.64...Might try neutral nugget melted down with blue computer ink added then cooled!!!! QUE THE MAD SCIENTIST
Based on this google search you might need to use another brand..... https://www.google.com.au/search?q=b...HWqvD68QsAQINg Mister Minute kiosks in shopping centres often have colour change bottles mainly used on ladies shoes plus they also have a big range of colours and reckon they would have blue in traditional 'Nugget' style too.
Hope you have a long white lab coat handy if going down the mad scientist path. Things could get messy.
Here is the Blue boot Polish second coat.....Will cut back with sanding after few more coats

that comes up good!
great colour from the polish!
Similar colour tones from front to back....worked out good and cost next to nix I bet.
coming along nicely HB, the colour is very similar to Dingotone Bondi Blue. Got to love blue quilted maple looks like you are looking into a swimming pool ! Have you already put the copper shielding in ? I usually do that last before the wiring.
Be worth cleaning up the binding now as well.
Hi guys, haven't posted in a while nothing to report as waiting on the Neck curing and the blue stain to dry out, I haven't done the shielding yet nor binding, reason is I am clumsy and I know as soon as I handle it I will smudge something so waiting till the finish no longer smells then know it will be dry,
I was pretty skeptical when you said "blue boot polish" to stain the body, but that quilted top looks amazing!
I found out about Boot Polish stain from a Wood Working site....Also thinking of using Tea to create Tannin ie Orange...This build was about outside the box...Cheap alternatives etc..Basically a PBG Noob build but on a budget....No upgrades ....Can I build a guitar that I love cheap......Yes I can...So many great builds on this site but no so many basic kit builds with cheap 'Hacks and Tricks'...I wanted this build to be for all the Noobs.. Kidss....Teenagers..... Dads on the cheap etc...
But thanks for the positive comments
Hey Guys,
Know I started this as a cheap ass build...but now thinking getting a bone nut blank from PBG....Any reviews from you boys regards F type nut....Depth etc..
