Hey guy's, I've made a bit of progress on my build and thought I might put some more pics up. So, here she is ready for spraying the headstock.

Here are a few more.

I gave that a good rub with 4-0000 steel wool between coats, and eventually did 6 coats of flat black. Here are some more.

Now to mask again for clear coat. Stay tuned.
Masked and ready for clear coat.

After 8 coats of clear and since I'm not going to push my luck with a headstock logo, ready for the tuners.Attachment 4586
More to come.
good effort Steve, the headstocks look very nice. Love the PBG box mini spray booth, very good use of the packing box !
Here we go.

That was the easy part. lol! Those little screws were a bugger to screw in with those precision screw drivers. I got blisters on my fingers and haven't even played her yet! Then my son handed me a good screw driver. Much easier. Doh!

Next, the saddle pins.
As promised.

Next will be the wiring. Wish me luck guy's. From what I've been hearing, I'm gonna need it.
Cheers!
Thanks woks! A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do brother. lol.
looks excellent Steve. Wonder why the 6 string fingerboard is so much lighter in colour than the 12 string ? have to polished or oiled the 12 string fingerboard ?
Looks good Steve. That's a lot of tuners to install! The finish line is fast approaching
Nope, haven't oiled the rosewood yet woks, that's just the colour they were when they arrived. I kinda like it though. Gonna be using Dunlop 65 on them before stringing. And thank you Andrew, I'm looking forward to that line mate! I wanna play her! LOL! Cheers!
some great work there Steve, nice job
Excellent work, good luck on the wiring.
Thank you Stan.
Thanks Kurt. I"m gonna need it.
OK, so a bit more progress on the build. The wiring has begun. Some pics:

Now to button up the toggles, test the circuits, and string her up. Stay tuned for more fun and adventure!
Good luck. :)
Should be good Pablo, I used the PBG wiring diagram. Thanks.
looks excellent Steve, I love the way you labelled the wires, avoids confusion.
I need to rewire mine so will use your approach.
Very tidy job indeed. Are you going to copper shield the cavities ? could lower the hum and interference.
Also glad I saw a Heineken stubbie on the workbench.
Thank you Woks. Yeah, labeling the wires was the way to go for sure. I thought about shielding the cavities but since I'm so far out in the boonies I'm hoping it wasn't needed. If she has a hum, I suppose I can always pop her apart and try again. And yes, I have a bit of a sweet tooth when it comes to those Heinies. LOL! Cheers!
mine took about 2.5 PBG copper shielding kits to shield there's so many cavities in that body !
But with all that shielding it only takes one stray bare wire to make contact with the shielding and earth the signal.
I see you have a heap of wires going back to the main control cavity for earthing
Uh huh. On the PBG wiring diagram it said that the purple wires weren't needed if the cavities were shielded and the pots came into contact with the shielding, so I took a chance and decided not to shield. I'll let ya know how that works out. Lol!
Better to be safe than sorry. I ground the back of pots as well as shield. In my house (old wiring, tons of fluoro lights), shielding is a necessity.
If problems arise, I have ample time to shield as I've been retired since 1998. This is my 1st build so I'm still learning. Thanks for the tip though Pablo.
So after completing the wiring, only the 6 string neck worked. I ended up pulling it all back out and shielding everything as was suggested. I also used the GEAR4MUSIC wiring diagram instead of the PBG diagram but did use a bridge ground and now she is working great. Still need to do some fine tuning and adjust intonation but so far looking pretty good. Will post more pics soon.
OK. Since nobody seems to care about this anymore, I will just say goodbye. Adam, you can delete my account.
Steve glad you got the wiring sorted well done. There are so many build diaries running it's sometimes hard to get people to comment on each diary. Don't leave the community please. I've enjoyed your build diary so hope you start another kit soon.
I'd love to see a demo and it's not too late to enter it in GOTM. I'm sure people are still viewing your thread and are still very interested in all the build diaries
For you Woks:

Farewell.
Hey Steve great looking build! You must be happy with how it's turned out. I too hope you don't leave the community. As Woks said there are so many build diaries and other interesting threads being updated constantly it would be a full time job responding to every post. Unfortunately this means some comments get missed but I certainly don't think that means people have lost interest.
I follow a number of builds (such as yours) with keen interest and don't comment on all of them. This is not because I don't care about the build/builder but because I just like browsing sometimes or may not have anything to add to the conversation. I would assume that others are like this too.
Also your build diary is only 7 pages long and has over 1200 views! That in itself shows people are still very interested in your build.
People always seem to comment on pics too so if you're feeling your thread needs a little love just chuck up some pics of....well anything guitar related and you're bound to get people commenting.
Anyway would love to see a demo of this beasty. Haven't seen one in action yet. I don't think Woks has a demo up of his??? would be keen to see that too if he has done one.
Looks great Steve.
Like Crundes, I try and read every post but I tend to just post when I have something worthwhile saying, am answering a specific question or when we see the finished product. Please don't feel unappreciated, you've built a great looking guitar.
This is looking good Steve, a mammoth effort putting this together! Demo would be nice one up and running, I'm especially interested to hear how the 12 string sounds.
