Just smacked it on the back until the bushings fell out... Why, is there a better way of doing it?
hell yeah, just slip the claw of the hammer under the bridge and lever away - bridge and bushings all come out in one go
Here to help, Pabs, haha
so the missus doesn't know a bass kit is on its way Andrew ?
which model ?
sorry Pabs but your threads seem to attract thread jackers !
I've gone for JBA-4 but (luckily...??) its on back-order until Sep.... (time to slip-stream in some upgrades until then..)
nice one Andrew, so the rosewood neck ? I got a JBA maple neck (like Bass Guys) in the pile to build
haha Pabs you should be used to it by now !
Think Barge's last build diary got to about page 8 before he started sanding so its far from the record !
Plus, that guitar didn't even get finished, so it had the potential to go way longer. I'm not out to set records. :) Mind you 500 odd views and 50 something posts and I only started this thread a couple of days ago...
yeah thats it Pabs, been a while since you had a build diary so shows everyone is interested in the EX build.
I reckon that basswood has some pretty cool grain. So was this a non PBG kit ?
don't forget the copper shielding before you re-glue the neck bwhahahahha
You are just over 400 posts away from Overlord status too !
I've already got it out. Had to use a chisel. Nah, this is a legit PBG kit (dude was pretty unhappy about it), would have put it in the non-PBG section otherwise. Don't know if it'll be eligible for gotm though, as I was not the first owner. Long way off worrying about that yet.
looks like its the Woks and Pablo show ! last 7 posts ! wonder who the common denominator is hahha
Sure it will be eligible to enter GOTM as its basically a full rebuild.
I have seen some stunning basswood grain but its rare. Sure this will look very nice in red wine and black pickguard.
I'd route out your switch cavity before you start sanding
Andrew you could always pull the old "it was a factory second going cheap" comment hahha
fair enough. You will rip the existing stain off with 80 or 120 grit paper on an orbital sander
That's the plan, bro. Still tossing up the idea of binding and maybe a tummy cut.
yeah cool, binding would look classy and I've never seen a tummy cut on an explorer !
Definitely do the carves Pabs, very easy to do but also very easy to mess up!
I regret not doing it on my rc4, that digs in to my ribs after a while and makes playing for extended periods uncomfortable.
I agree Pabs, I can play the Strat for hours on end with no pain at all!
Go the tummy cut, I have one on my latest TLA-1 guitar and it's going to make a huge difference [for me personally] in comfortability

I can't make a tummy cut big enough for the "keg" I'm carrying.......
Fretty, why not? This is happening right now!

I am awaiting your response....
Do it, yeah!
I like the idea Pabs and if it works well might try it I got an ash EX in the pile to build.
Haven't seen it done but can't see any reason why not !
crank that grinder bro
Too late.

Sorry, Fretworn.
Gotta admit, angle grinder and flap wheel does a smashing job at this. So easy.
nice job Pabs, that was quick !
How does the body feel in the playing position ?
Yep, took less than 5 minutes. Sits beautifully against the body. Well pleased.
good stuff Pabs, I'm going to do the same my next EX build.
Looks like the old stain came off ok.
The speed this build is going you could have it sanded ready for stain over the weekend !
Oh, I could easily have it stained by sunday night, but I am broke and I still need to buy some stains...doh. Still got to sand the neck down too. Not looking forward to that, needs to be done by hand.
