looks very nice Moose, will be tough waiting the week to cure. Maybe look at wiring options ?
I'm shopping for pick-ups, wiring upgrades, and tuning machines at the moment. I'll spend the next week on the headstock, where I intend to do a bit of surgery (surprise).
I'm also trying to design a decal for the headstock, my initials perhaps.
I've spent 2 night scraping binding...not sure I'd want to do much more!
Sanding through the grits and polishing to begin on the weekend.

Such a gorgeous build.
beautiful result Moose, very nice
Dead sexy.
beautiful result Moose, all that binding cleaning paid off !
that top is stunning
The weeks of shellac are over.
I have begun sanding the finish, using mineral oil instead of water, I worked through 800-1500-2000 grit, then moved to a polishing compound and swirl remover.
In the first pic you can see the difference between 800 on the left and 1500 on the right. The final 2 pictures are of the finished product, with 2 coats of wax.

Now to repeat on the top, neck and sides.
The pictures don't really capture the finish, mobile phone pics reduced to 200kb. I'll get it all built and then find a place to upload some full-size photos from the 35mm camera. The shellac is sensational but understated at the same time.
Even with a phone picture it still looks awesome!
Shiny. Really shiny.
The front needs some touch-ups, but shellac allows for this by binding into previous coats.

The nature of the shellac finish is that it is extremely-thin, and it's difficult not to go too far in the final polishing phase. Thankfully, adding some more shellac in the spots that I've gone through is easy.
Sprayed lacquer would have been much easier, but this guitar was asking for something more traditional.
that cap is looking stunning Moose keep up the good work
Beautiful flame on that top. Looks great moose!
your patience is paying off moose, it looks amazing
I've ordered a pair of Moonflower humbuckers from Mr. Fabulous in Melbourne. These are hand-made in Australia. I'll give you all my impressions when I've completed the build.

Awesome finish Moose. Hard work and patience pays off in the end!

they seem really good moose.
I know a guy who gets a lot of stuff off Mr Fab, and says it's good
What size fret crowning file do I need for this FS-1 kit? Large? I'm going to get an end file as well, the ends of the frets need so much work...very sharp edges.
Final "spiriting off" of the top. I think the end result is what I wanted. 3 weeks on this top.

Hahaha, ^ perfect!
Final coat of black paint and buffing to come, then polishing the neck and headstock.
When pick-ups arrive I'll start assembly. I'm going to upgrade the pots, I'm going to split the humbuckers anyway so I need a push-pull.
The frets need work, I think this will be quite a lengthy process.
A thing of beauty is a joy to behold!
What's that crazy bugger up to now?
Anyone who has seen a Starcaster will know.

Nice plans Moose!!
nice Moose, the top looks great.
Are you going to carve the head or paint or both?
I'm "shaping it" and painting it, but not a true carve like the originals. It's unusual, but adds huge character. I should have a photo of the headstock in the next day or two.
Beautiful job Moose!
Very, very nice. A finish worth all the patience and work.
Fantastic looking guitar moose and fortunately you had some great veneer to work with .
Certainly worth all the effort you put it ,well done
