And the winner is...
Many thanks to our Judging panel, including special guest Judge, Shoota.
In submission order:
1. Fretworn’s JBA-4 in Dingotone Nullarbor Ochre
http://www.buildyourownguitar.com.au...1&d=1426406843
You have brought out the detail in that ash grain extremely well. Great that you stuck to the natural ‘wood’ . Must be a pleasure to play. Headstock is great too. Great choice of finish, looks fantastic, yet very playable.
The grain really pops and the colour makes it a classy looking bass. Clean, Classy and Functional Lovely grain, nice choice of finish - good use of stock components. Excellent colour choice, really suits that bass. This is a simple yet sophisticated instrument, you gotta be happy Fretty.
2. JayBoy’s ESP-1 in White
http://www.buildyourownguitar.com.au...5&d=1426771092
Really like what you did with the individualisation of this axe from the angled horns and personal headstock.
Black and White contrast looks awesome too. I might have considered silver/chrome pickup rings as an upgrade to define the pickups a
little more and split the ‘blackness’ at the neck.Nice work great for a first build, white body and black hardware looks nice contrast. Great first build. Glad it wasn't in last months.
Love the colour scheme and upgrades. Not my style but the finish looks awesome. Love the dark neck.
Nice use of the ESP shape and personalising it with the bevelled edges. Never underestimate the power of black and white, always looks so striking. Really nice build for a first timer, JayBoy.
3. Gavin Turner’s STA-1 in Blue
http://www.buildyourownguitar.com.au...0&d=1426830055
This is a head-turner Mr. Turner! Unbelievable blue, gold and white combination . I’m not usually fond of blues and green on Ash but
this one has changed my mind. Absolutely love it and knowing your attention to detail it must be a beaut to play!Wow this looks great it almost glows what a finish. A work of art. That blue is beautiful, as is the grain showing through. The gold, white and blue are a match made in heaven.
You've managed to develop a fantastic blue there Gav. Finish sublime as usual. One of the most beautiful guitars I’ve seen from a PBG kit. Can’t fault it and would love to own it.
4. Andrew Osborne’s ES-1G
http://www.buildyourownguitar.com.au...9&d=1427608326
The ES is almost an obligatory entry these days, the psych’s must be happy. It a really tastefully prepared flamed maple burst and the personalised headstock looks fantastic too. Great job on the wiring, so neat. I would pick this one up, it is classy without being flashy.
Beautiful grain and colour combination. Nice even burst.
Lovely burst. Overall effect amazing, love the finish and attention to detail. You’ve created an authentic vintage look… very impressive. This would sit right at home in any serious player’s collection.
Thanks to the four builders for entering this month; another very tough one to judge.
The Guitar of the Month for April 2015 is Gavin Turner's STA-1.
Congratulations Gav!

Congrats Gav, a stunner of a finish. All the other other entries were of exceptional quality too.
Any entry here could have won this - but awesome work Gav, a very well deserved win
Congrats Gav, well deserved, the finish on this axe is just mesmerising - one of the best I have ever seen on this style of guitar. And well done to all other entrants all great axes.

This is my latest build. An IB-7 kit in what I'm calling "Xenoplasm burst".
Very proud of this one, my first attempt doing a burst finish.
Cheers
Gerry: that is an awesome build, it belongs in May GOTM, April GOTM is run and won
Put it here mate: http://www.buildyourownguitar.com.au...ead.php?t=3695
Well done Gav, love the depth of the blue :-)
Gerry, wait until the next month's thread is up (it will be the May 2015 one) and enter it in there, love the look, you'll be in with a good chance :-)
Thanks guys - I'm a bit stunned at the result to be honest. Personally I didn't rate my chances in such a strong field. All amazing builds this month! A big congrats to all the entrants.
cheers,
Gav.
Haha Gav, now you have to help judge next month, and with what has been produced lately, good luck!
Well deserved win Gav, consistency always pays off! Expect a call from the great man with a subtle hint for the recipe of that blue....demand naming rights!
Congratulations. I love to see old scratched up guitars that look like they have a thousand stories to tell. On the other hand there are the ones that would bring me to tears if it ever got the slightest scratch. This is one of the latter.
I prefer to have beaten up guitars, my Strat is getting a little beat up and it brings character and personality into the guitar!
congratulations Gav, I knew you would win another GOTM, only a matter of time. Big congratulations to all the other entrants were all brilliant builds.
Also well done to all the judges on another tough month to judge
Congrats Gav - your guitar even dragged the Gavmeister out of his hiding place!
Well done to all entrants, with a special well done to Gav. Such a lovely deep blue Gav, very envious.

What did you finish your guitar in gav? If it's tru oil, did you have any problems with the blue going green?
Hey Chris,
I used Colortone dye with Ebony Timbermate to fill the grain. For clear coats I used White Knight gloss acrylic. Personally I havent tried blue with Tru-Oil. It does have an amber tint, so it may change the colour, but I can't confirm that. Thing is, I've seen that http://fredyen.com used Tru-Oil over his blue dye and that didn't seem to discolour, although it was a pretty dark finish
Hope this helps a little.
cheers,
Gav.
Great job Gav, a worthy winner amongst an outstanding field, poor poor judges.
Thanks Bargey ;).
cheers,
Gav.

hey Nick, choice looking EX well done, what stain is that, quite a deep red colour ?
You need to post this in the May GOTM thread, April has been and gone (you need to enter before the month displayed in the comp)
Is it just the bridge pup you replaced ?
