Maple goes with any colour scheme and probably the darker the better so it acts as a contrast......think Eric Clapton's Strat for an example not that I am suggesting solid black.
Still reckon DT OS would work. I think one of Woks guitars is in the shots on the PBG DT page for this colour and was one of the reasons I bought it for the EX-5, just wanted it a little bit lighter and experimented with adding some CG as well to end up with the final bright colour.
3 Dams was good - ended up doing it at a 25km/h average, which I'm pretty happy with - less than 6 hours in the saddle and a new top speed (72km/h). Pretty stuffed Sunday arvo and slow day yesterday - back in the swing of things today and cranking on. Just need to get some guitars finished to clear some space in the shed!
well done Bman on the 3 dam ride, sure there were some monster hills - up and down.
72km/h is fast. My top speed on a bicycle was actually on a mountain bike 75km/h down a steep hill. If the hill was longer sure I would have cracked 80km/h and can only pedal the mountain bike about 60km/h with smaller 26" wheels and lower gearing
Those speeds are insane.
Body sanded back to 120 grit - time to work through the grits again... That Dingotone - I'm amazed at the penetration - it has taken a lot of effort to get it off the guitar - still not certain it's all gone - couple of places that may have some remenants, but I figure going through the grits again should knock those off....
Looking good Brendan. That grain!
cheers,
Gav.
First coat of stain on...
Lighting's terrible - colour is closer on the back photo.
Nice grain in these Ash J Bass bodies. Pity that the middle plank is not as figured as the 2 side wings. Same thing happening on my J Bass too but most of that gets covered up with a scratch plate, bridge, strings & PUP's.
Is that a rosewood colour you are trying to get?
It's Wudtone Columbian Gold - got it in the throw out sale when Adam was getting rid of old stock. I'm planning an ashtray for the bridge, so I think there will be stuff all of the less figured wood showing.
Nice Ash grain Bman my first pine scratch build was columbian gold. Nice colour
From memory I think you have a maple FB too? Should go well together and provide a really nice contrast. Haven't seen a J Bass ashtray since the 70's and back then they had the F stamped into them.
Yep maple fretboard - as for the ashtray, I've got a cheapie - no F on it, but should be good... Fingers crossed.
