Oh damn this will be cool!
Awesome stuff Gav, the tobacco burst should look insane.
Thanks guys for the encouraging words.
I actually (finally) made a small amount of progress on this today. In the interests of body weight (the ash body in particular is a beast) I've decided to create an arm rest and tummy cut for this build. Yeah I know, she'll be even closer to a glorified strat! :P I wanted something different for my second MK-2 build, and I've never done these modifications before. Anyway, I got the rasp and half-round bastard file out today in a spare 1/2hr and went at it. I'll post some pictures soon. I'm still in the process of rubbing out the last of the rasp gouges with the file. If all goes well, it will be then on to the 80 grit paper. I'm pretty happy with how it's looking so far. Fingers crossed!
cheers,
Gav.
Good stuff Gav look forward to the pics. Might as well make your own mods to the shape. Should be more comfortable to play
Here's a couple of pics of my handiwork. Pretty happy with the results. Now to get finished with the sanding so I can get some serious staining done.
cheers,
Gav.
Nice one Gav! A very professional result :-)
Nice grain on this one too.
Thanks man, yeah I hope she's gonna look sweet with some timbermate in the grain! Might be a case of less is more with this one.
cheers,
Gav.
Yeah this will be really classy axe with the less is more approach. The P90's will be an awesome contrast to the tobacco burst.
I got a TL-1 in the anniversary sale and I'm wanting to put a p90 in the neck position so I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the Entwistles when she's all up and running :-) !
looking good the shaping mods Gav, some pretty serious ash grain there will mega pop once the timbermate is on. What colour you going walnut ?
Very nice cuts Gav, this is going to look awesome!
very smooth, another Fires Creek killer axe coming up...
@crundes, @wokks, @andrew & @stan - thanks for the kind words guys. I hope I can do this piece of timber justice. @woks - yeah dude, it'll be walnut Timbermate for this one. Should look great with the browns of the tobacco burst.
cheers,
Gav.
Hey guys,
Another quick update before I jet off OS again for work tomorrow :(. I got the body filled with Walnut Timbermate yesterday and stained with a tobacco burst - Amber, Red Mahogany and Tobacco Colortone. I'm pretty happy with how it looks. I was contemplating some black on the very edge but decided not to risk it. Today I got two coats of tru-oil over the top to seal up the pores prior to clear coating. I'm really liking how this is coming along.
cheers,
Gav.
nice one Gav that looks excellent. Nice blend. I would have darkened the edges more but thats personal preference. Looks great. Lots of time for it to cure now while you are away
Thanks Wokks :). Yeah I thought long and hard about darker edges. I'm a bit scared of the black colortone I think ;). Next time definitely!
cheers,
Gav.
all good bro, if it ends up being too dark for your liking you can sand it off anyway !
should look great when its finished, this has a black pickguard right ? does it come with chrome hardware ?
EDIT I just went back to page 1 and saw its got a black pickguard and chrome Bigsby, should look unreal !
Almost Wokks, I changed the pickguard to white - Pabs made me a special one for cream P90s. I might consider asking Pabs to cut me a black one too to see what the difference is. Hmm decisions :).
cheers,
Gav.
Gav I think white pickguard may be too much contrast. Definitely have Pabs make a black one so you can at least compare them
Looking good Gav. Coming along nicely
yeah I thought so Gav, black pickguard 100%. Will see how the cream P90's look once the black pickguard is cut to suit the pups
Thanks Andrew :). Yeah Woks I might even have to get black covers for the P90s, although that means I'd have to let go of the Entwistle logo on each ;).
cheers,
Gav.
yeah I got a feeling Gav black pup covers will look better than cream. Wait and see
Maybe you could send Pabs a set of black covers and get him to etch 'Entwistle' into them while he's cutting your black scratchplate... I mean, it has to look right, right?
Btw, nice burst.
better still have Pabs makes ones with your logo one them, yes you didnt make them, but they are for your guitar...
I actually think the cream will work with black
Looks awesome Gav! Love the subtle burst. I'm with woks on the black pickguard, looks better than the white. I think the cream pup covers still could look really good. Hard to say at this stage though.
I guess now that you have that spare pickguard floating around you'll just have to make another mosrite..!
Scott, Stan, Crundes - thanks for the encouragement guys. Sounds like the black guard is a definite. Interesting idea about getting the black covers etched Scott - I'll ponder that one. I'm with Stan for the moment - the cream ones *may* be ok, so i'll wait and see :). Crundes - you can never have too many mossy's so it's only a matter of time on that score :).
cheers,
Gav.
Ok. Now im excited!
Ok who is Pabs? I'd love to get a pickgaurd for my next mk2

pabs is forum member pablopepper, send him a pm. he makes great laser cut acrylic templates and pickguards and other cool plasticy stuff, his quality is great and prices are very fair
hi guys,
I received a new black pickguard from pabs over the weekend - thanks heaps Pabs!! I think it really looks the business now. The body of the guitar hasn't got exactly the colour I was going for, but I'm pretty happy with it all the same. Something you don't see every day. I just have to flatten the acrylic lacquer and start polishing..
cheers,
Gav.
nice one Gav, 2 x P90 goodness, so have you stained the headstock ?
Your neck hanger looks in the shape of a cricket bat so DB would say there are 2 cricket bats in the photo bwhahahaha
:P nice one wokka. Nah no work on the headstock or neck yet. It will be vintage yello I think.
cheers,
Gav.
sounds good Gav, can't believe how many Mosrites are being built now
