that neck if fine with the blue, Gav. The white plastics just seem a little stark, and off white/parchment colours will blend it in just fine IMO.

I did a natural neck on my Strat with the red body, and I think it suits!
Also if the creams don't match, maybe go pearloid guard / pup covers?
Gav, I keep looking at this and see the same thing. Leave the neck and headstock alone. Kinda has a cool vintage look. I think plain white guard is going to detract from the beauty of the color. I think an off white might do the same. Please consider either a black pearloid or a white pearloid guard. I really think they would make that blue just POP POP POP out!!!!
I can see a white pearloid guard on that axe. Just beautiful!!!
Look at these pearloids. Look at the white one. It's subtle not in your face and melts well into the blue colors. I think it would look cherry!!!

Gav I'm not trying to push you or tell you what to do. I just see this damned beautiful blue guitar and I feel I need to speak up and add my two cents. If you can get hold of a white pearloid and try it I think you'll either go...boy this is crap...or you'll go...HOLY CRAP this is it!!!!!!
I can't stand Strats but if i had money would buy it from you. That's how beautiful that axe is. A white pearloid would make this not only a real beauty...but a sexy beauty at that.
oh man if you hit it with a gloss acry, WOW!!!
Then one day do the same build again same everything but leave the neck and headstock natural. Two sexy beauties that I would be interested in owning if could afford it!!! :D
You can even get white pearloid speed knobs for it.
But I'll shut up now. I think I may have overstepped my boundaries. My apologies to you Gav if I have.
I;m sorry Gav. I see a beautiful axe and I get excited. I have to realize that what I think is sexy may not be the same as you. I'll do my best to tone it down in future. I'm sorry my friend.
@rob - no worries dude! Don't apologise for being excited about axes! All suggestions and any piece of advice is very very welcome. If nothing else it gives me some nice ideas for my next build :). It's all good man!
cheers,
gav.
as excited as Rob is, he has a point, it would look good!
Exactly @stan. In my haste to reply to @rob I neglected to add that his suggestion about white pearloid is a great one. It will be my very next port of call if the cream doesn't work out!
Cheers,
Gav.

Rob rarely gets excited about anything Strat. Gav's is just exciting. That blue is calling to me. This is a guitar I think would not last long in a music store.
Right now as it sits it would get my vote for GOTM.
Thanks rob :). Still plenty of time for me to stuff this one up. Black burst to go then acrylic clear. In general strats aren't exactly my thing either, but this one is coming along nicely. Will be interesting to see how it looks at the end of it all!
cheers,
Gav.
Black burst!!!! Dude you've got this. Can't wait to see this thing when it's done!!!
I think even more now that he white pearloid with be oh so sweet with blue/black burst. YEA!!!!
Well, an interesting day. I attempted my black burst with less than optimum results. It was interesting - the ash seemed to get to a stage where it had as much colour as it was going to take, and any more application of black dye wouldn't take like i needed it to. Anyway, looks like my rubbed-burst method needs some re-thinking - at least for ash.
The upshot was that the blue colour darkened a little with all my ministrations, and while I got some black(ish) colour on the end grain, the distinct black burst I was aiming for is still lacking. Overall I'm still happy with the look, so on went the first coats of acrylic lacquer. Here's how it looks after 3 coats (1 days spraying).

This is in direct sunlight. Indoors the body looks much darker. The photo is a little deceiving to tell you the truth. In reality the colour isn't nearly as vibrant. The grain is still highlighted nicely however, and I can't wait to see how the pladtics set the whole thing off.
cheers,
Gav.
love the colour Gav, that will look sweet after more clear coats. Nice one bro !
@Wokks, @Bargey - thanks guys. We'll see how she looks with some more coats!
cheers,
Gav.
looks like it actually woked out pretty well Gav. Will be interesting to see it full gloss. The blue looks great though
Thanks @Stan :). I will be interested to see how it turns out - even looks ok with the white pickguard at the moment, so who knows!
cheers,
Gav.
yeah perhaps that deeper blue will lend itself to further options for hardware colours
Gav, this is coming along nicely and that blue with ash grain is just out of this world!
Interesting with the black burst. From my colortone experiments the wood does seems to saturate with dye around 3-4 coats so maybe the trick word be to hit the border initially with black, do the blue middle bit then vigorously blend the two whilst still wet (whole process 3-4 times)?
just a single pass to put all dye on?
congratulations Stan, you are PBG's second Overlord of Music !
And in Gav's thread too, seems only right
That makes me PBGs second best typer!
haha yeah Stan, don't know why on the forum and on FB Gav seems to attract thread jackers !
Bugger Stan you beat me to yet.... Yet I did have a few hiatuses...
Gav, looks pretty darn good with the black! Maybe some gold hardware will really set it off with the blue?
Thanks Callum, if only I could afford the gold kit! Congrats Stan! We needed another overlord to keep Wokks company. Thank god for my thread jackers - they are the ones that keep my posts in the to-be-read lists and at the top of the FB feed. They must be carefully cultivated! hey Wokks??? :P
cheers,
GAv.
Yeah if the gold kit was cheaper I'd go for it every time!
Gav threads get jacked because he has a welcoming and conversational style.
Now Gold with blue would look nice...
Aww shucks stan :) . I might need to find the cash for the gold set! Negotiations with the minister of finance are continuing..
cheers,
Gav.
sell something and self finance - win win
hey Gav, +2 for gold hardware, should look sick. Has the cream pickguard arrived ? that may make the decision easier once that is on
@Wokks - yeah I will wait until it is here before making any decisions. @stan - sell something?? OMG I'd have to decide on something that could go!!!
cheers,
Gav.
just build a replacement later!
hi guys,
More clearcoats today. Body grain is almost filled enough for me to cut it back level. The neck has 7 coats of Tru-Oil and is starting to look good. I'll start cutting the clear back with 800 grit paper tomorrow then a couple of final clear coats. Hoping to get a nice smooth final finish. Fingers crossed!
cheers,
Gav.
looking sweet as Gav, so a combo of spray acrylic for the body and tru oil neck.
Gee you motor along with your builds Gav. The benefit of working from home hey !
Real nice Gav!
@Wokka, @Callum - thanks for the encouragement guys! You'll all be glad to know that I messaged Adam about the gold hardware, and will purchase today or tomorrow .
Yeah Wokks when you are coding from home it doesn't take much to spray a layer of clear on the body, stick it under the heat lamps, and go back to the desk. Or maybe grab the neck, steel wool it and add another layer of TO. Just little 5 minute jobs. I'll have the clear coats on this bad boy finished in 3 days at this rate!
cheers,
Gav.
