Try letting it dry longer between coats.....make a good base...sand sand sand prime and let hang....then coat and let that dry even up to a week. Should help the paint harden before you go again. These paint cans are never as specific and accuarte as your own spray booth and you don't know what the propellants and solvents do on your finish. Love the colour by the way.

Happy with the name. The splash will go on the back of the headstock but it's a pain to cut out each bit individually. Then the black will go on.

Decided against the splotch design and taped it up straight instead. May tape it again and fade from black to pink.

Peeled the taped stencil off the headstock today. Not perfect but it will do.

Shoota, loving the look of this. Once some certain occupants of our household see this I can foresee some 3/4 builds being requested ;)
-
well done Shoota that looks great, the colours look cool

Clear coat on. Next is a wet sand with 1500 and perhaps another coat if needed. Then it can start to go together.
-
nice job Craig, well done, the join lines of the paint look nice and clean and the clear coat is coming up nice and glossy. Looks like one more thin clear coat should nail the finish !
-
best rock chick guitar ever
-
Thanks wokka. The lines aren't perfect. I'm wondering if that's the difference between the $3 roll of yellow tape from Bunnings and the $12 roll of blue tape. Also there is a noticeable difference between the finish on the bits that I sprayed hanging vertically and the bits that the paint sat on top of. So Im considering a coat on each flat face where the paint will sit on it. Maybe a sand first
-
yeah spray painting on a flat surface seems to get better results than hanging it, much less runs

Am I on the right track? Can I screw the scratch plate and bridge down using the holes Wokka drilled during the mock up?

Shoota as long as the neck is screwed on. The shielding in and the wires soldered. Then put both E strings on and screw the bridge in place. Think we drilled two of the six Bridge holes

Help. The easiest kit to wire up and I'm having problems. My wiring looks nothing like the diagram on the website. It has one single yellow wire and a black one with two wires inside. A white and a bare. If I were to assume I'd say the yellow grounds at the spring bracket? And the other "2" go to the jack socket. Am I close?
-
hey Craig,
the wire with white and bare will go to the output jack, make sure the white goes to the hot tip (this lug doesn't touch the lead socket) and the bare goes to ground. The yellow should go to the trem spring claw. if you are getting a bad hum reverse the wires on the output jack. The colours of different kits vary so there's only 3 wires so not too many configurations.
Also the earthing circuit may not be complete without strings on the guitar. Another problem could be your copper shielding earthing out a wire or pot that is making contact

Shoota - I've done the wiring diagrams - so would be keen to see what's different - are you able to post any photos of the wires / control plate? Should be able to update the diagram and clarify today for you.

Strap for her birthday tomorrow.

@Shoota,
That guitar looks really nice, has Amanda tried playing it?
-
Yeah. We bought a rack for both our guitars. So it's always at arms length and plugged in ready to go. I have an app which is similar to the rocksmith software. We are giving that a go for her.

That is such a cool guitar Shoota!!! Excellent job!!

We have made one last addition to The Amanda Chatocaster(because she never stops talking).

Really cool guitar I'm sure your daughter will love it! I'm working on my own father/son band as well and look forward to being able to play music together in our lifetimes. My son started on base but has since switched to drums, hoping to add two more "band members" when my other two get old enough!
