Yeah, it looks fine in earlier posts, might have to try some targeted persuasion...

I'd be trying the "steady as she goes" method. Just slight back and forth wiggling, whilst pushing back in. It may even have to come out a bit further before going back in to it's proper spot. The biggest issue's gonna be keeping it there once you get it back in the right position.
I think it's just excited to have some colour on it.
How much tension is on the rod at the moment? Have you made any tweaks to it, like doing a fret level or anything, recently? If you hold the neck vertically with the headstock up and the tension off, a few gentle taps upwards on the butt of the heel with a mallet could coax it back into place.
yeah Stan just tap it in slowly, even tap the top of the headstock lightly to give the whole rod bit of a jolt, I've had this happen and luckily the rod tapped in pretty easily. Don't use too much force. Think once you get it in place it should stay there.
Looks like from that photo the truss rod got excited, must have seen another nioce axe nearby hahah
Stan
the rod on my Black junior did that. It'll be sloppy up until you do a string relief on it. On mine it pushed back easily.
PK
thanks guys, it tapped back in without too much hassle
So she wanted purple, so it gets purple.
Sanded back the coffee stain, but just to knock down the grain, most of the colour stayed on. Then with a mix of red and blue printer ink, the purple stain is made:

Wow that deep purple looks amazing (see what I did there ;)
Well this has turned into a fireball of puns hasn't it ;)
Great looking purple Stan.
cheers guys, purple get ready....
Nice shade of purple on the front of the Les Paul there, really looking forward to seeing what the finished guitar looks like.
I didn't think you could actually use printer ink as a stain on guitar bodies so there's a new one for me.
Thanks DrN.
Plenty before me have used it, so i hope it's safe. The only real issues are if it reacts to the clear. Being water based, it should be fine
Saw a guy on The Electric Guitar Builder's Resource page on FB used blue Kool Aid, and it looked awesome
Here you go.
If you can finally find the guitar in this picture, it was stained with Kool Aid:

OK on with the show.
Printer ink seems tricky to buy locally, everyone want to sell you a cartridge and not bottled ink.
So off to the local artist supply for a very pleasant surprise - bottled art ink. Water based, in the exact colour I wanted, cheaper than printer ink, and I suspect better quality.
Better still, the squeezer dropper gives great control of ink placement on the pad or direct onto the body of the guitar, both styles seemed to work well.

The body with the first treatment, not enough ink and a bit patchy:

Crappy iphone pics , sorry.
Rub back, used 220 grit, and it came up very smooth, hoping it would give some bite for the ink:

The new ink over the top, much more even and the colour was exactly what I wanted. Used a mixture of onto a pad, and drops directly onto the body. You don't need a lot. Very similar to the colour I mixed originally, covered well and no reactions.

So it will look something like this but glossy:

It will dry for a day or so and I'll see if it needs any touch ups.
Interestingly it soaked into the outside edges a bit more, giving a very subtle burst effect...
wow Stan I love the colour and the depth you got. This will be an awesome looking axe.
You given me ideas to try this ink out !
Interested to see what other colours are available. That dark blue on the outside of the quilted top looks superb - took me 5 mins to find the guitar haha
Wow, that colour is lush! This is shaping up to be a cracker.
Thanks Wokka, the middle pic is pretty close in colour to what I got.
The ink was about $16 and easily enough for 3 guitar tops, although I cant see another purple one on the horizon soon, unless she wants a Strat too. I'd budget for a single bottle for a Strat or full body covereage. I could have got red and blue and mixed, giving me more versatility in reuse of the ink, but this one was spot on
Thanks Pabs!
Love that purple. Giving me ideas :D
That ink has worked a treat, beautiful colour!
thanks Andrew
Stan the ink Meister looks great nice colour
Haha, thanks Kimball
That's a stunning purple, Stan.
I definitely have to do another build now in that colour. Damn you. :p
thanks westy, if it is as good as the wasp, it will be awesome
more pics time. binding cleaned up
I cant believe how crappy my iphone pics come up on the forum, oh well...
