Some more work done.
Backplate made & pre-fitted.
First phase of carving and power sanding done.
Next phase will be the rasps, then the inevitable hand sanding through the grits . . .
BTW I'm still working on getting webbing to shoot out of its (ahem) spinneret.
Why do I have to do all the legwork?

What a beauty
The body has now been worked/sanded down to 400 grit and given a slurry coat of Timbermate. This is an idea I saw on a Utube demo - much easier to apply & clean up, dries much faster and of course it doesn't stink like acrylic spray putty. The result after a light 400 sanding - virtually the same.
Dusting coat & first coat of satin black sprayed on - this will get sanded back between the next few coats.
Those stubby legs might need some help . . .

@ The legs are quite bendy with blackened mushroom head rivet tips to protect the eyeballs. I've figured out the legs will not really interfere with playability, but in any case my guitars usually go up on the wall & gather dust (or cobwebs - tee hee)
First pic gives a rough idea how the reflective red contact works in the light.
Now it's off to consider fitting the neck . . .

Thanks for the encouraging words gentlemen, they really do help spur you on, especially when you're doing something a little different.
OK - Neck aligned & fitted. Electrics all wired up & tested (with a tuning fork). Decided to leave the FR nut in place just for show!
Can't wait to string her up and do the usual intonation/tweaking then see how the "portamento" PUP sounds . . . .
BTW my SG-2 Summer Special turned up today thanks to lightning boy Phil. I have big big plans for it . . . .

Maxxy you always totally blow away the forum with your builds. Not in a million years would anyone guess this started off as a ST1 kit !
Can we please see a video of how the pickup moves along the slot ? wondering why the switch slot is so long must have something to do with it
@ Johnnychronic: Legs are 4 parts: 13mm poly tube, rubber vacuum tube, flexible poly riser, mushroom head rivet.
This means no sharps and that the legs are very flexible.
@ Wokks: Long slot is because that is a 500k SLIDER vol pot with a fair bit of travel.
@ Bargy et al: the single humbucker has two slip tubes affixed underneath. These guide the PUP along the two steel rails which are height adjustable (at setup). These tubes also rub on two strips of soft black felt at the sides & beaneath the whole deal. The friction is sufficient to keep the PUP positioned where you have set it by hand. The shielded curly cord is firmly attached under the centre of the PUP and stretches into a recess under the bridge to allow enough length. Sorry I don't have a vid cam, but I hope the rough diagram helps to clarify . . .
