Yeah, Wokka has the truth of it. No way could I get away with this in the house ;) .
Cheers,
Gav.
Looks to me sir like you have got this paint and clear coat malarkey all sorted brother. Looks bloody great mate I'm very impressed. You have passed the Jarrod's school of colour with distinction and can safely dwell in the clear coat corner of the naughty room drinking beer and eating pizza with me ......Yah company.
Thanks Jarrod - I'm getting there! I've been wetsanding yesterday and today I started on the cut and polish. I noticed on one bridge post hole and on one neck screw hole that the finish has bulged a little. Obviously didnt heed the warning about water in holes closely enough! I've certainly learned my lesson now :) . Never needed to worry with the Oil whose name I must not speak. Anyway, the issues arent too big, so nothing to cry over. Will post pics soon!
cheers,
Gav.
Should look unbelievable all put together, can't wait to see her all done Gav. Lovin' that heater idea too, perfect solution for this time of year!
hi guys,
Thanks Bargey! Not long now - she's really coming together. Today, while my code built I took the opportunity to finish my wet sanding to 2000 grit and then get on to the Meguiars compounds as taught by sensei Jarrod.
It took 3 passes with the Meguiars ultimate compound before I was satisfied that all the sanding marks were removed. Jeez my shoulders were aching by the end. No buffing machines here in Holgate folks!

It was then on to the Meguiars Scratch 2.0X. She's really shining now! Very happy with how the body has come up. There's a few little marks here and there that pay witness to my outdoor clear coating activities (damn little bugs!) but all in all she looks awesome - I'm one very happy pinhead!

I even had time to get some copper foil into the cavity. I Still have to get the ground wire in and soldered to the copper, but that's tomorrow's job.

In other awesome news, I finally ordered my DiMarzio FS-1 to go into the bridge pickup slot. Exactly the same pickup as Johnny rocked. Just hope I can do it justice. Exciting times!!
cheers,
Gav.
Nice job it's looking great. Busted out a bit of pet cemetery while jamming tonight in it's honour.
Awesome Looney! Great track that one.
cheers,
Gav.
Hi guys,
Shielding is done, wiring is in - all except the bridge pickup that I'm still waiting on. Fret level is still required.

It's looking an absolute pearler, Gav!
yes Gav another choice build. I'm excited now about finishing my Mossie. Only if there was more spare time !
Thanks @Fretty & @Wokka!
My DiMarzio FS-1 arrived this afternoon and went straight into the bridge slot. With just a tap test she sounds overwound to the max! Can't wait to hear it.

With the pickups in place, I was able to get the shielding finished around the edge of the cavity, and screw the pickguard on lined up under the E strings. She's finally looking whole! I'm very excited now ;) .

Just a fret level and lowering the nut to go now. I'm tempted to sneak in a quick play as is, but I think I'll try to resist until everything is finished.
cheers,
Gav.
wow Gav looks fully sick well done bro !
Good sign that the bridge pup sounds overwound. With any luck we'll see a video of you belting out Ramone chords by the weekend !
Nice pile of boxes in the background and thats minus the six on the way ?
Man she's gonna sound the balls!!Quote:

Must have been the day for pickups, mine got dropped off today too, unfortunately I'm a bit further away from pluggin' in than you gav, dieing to hear this in action.
@ Wokka, @Bargey thanks guys - I'm stoked with how she's looking. Yeah Wokka - I still have 5 builds on the go right now, and another 6 boxes arriving this week from the sale. If only I could actually play!!! LOL.
cheers,
Gav.
This just oozes cool hey, I love it
Gav just strum a few fast power chords, sure it will sound the goods mate
Not long now, Gav. Looking tidy as. Can't wait to hear this guy roar in to action!

Leo fender never played but he sure built a legendary axe.
hi guys,
Thanks for the kind words, especially those relating to my lack of guitar virtuosity :P . Today I got the frets level (sans the 0th fret) and then filed the nut slots down to almost nothing. The strings are now all sitting on the 0th fret. The action is nice and low, although the G string is buzzing a bit. There might be a high fret somewhere, so I'll need to investigate that one. Here's a first look at how she came out. I'll take some sexier shots in the coming days..

All in all she feels nice to play. I haven't really cut loose yet as I'm supposed to be working (um, huh?), but I have all weekend. I'll let you guys know how she goes when I do.
cheers,
Gav.
Awesome.
That thing is killer man. Good job can't wait to hear some killer Ramones riffage.
Hey Gavin I had my doubts about how his this would turn out but you have nailed the white finish. Just beautiful mate. Well done. Permission to use it as the featured finished kit?
Hey Adam, no worries at all. Would you like a better picture, or will this one suffice?
cheers,
Gav.
My hats off Gav, looks brilliant mate, top effort. Looking forward to a demo:-)
@Pabs, @Looney, @Adam, @Bargey - thanks guys. I'm pretty happy with how she has come up. I'm hoping to get a sound demo together soon.
cheers,
Gav.
awesome Gav killer looking axe mate, you got me motivated to get cracking on my Mossie, I haven't even looked at or touched an axe all week due to bloody work getting in the way and its very frustrating !
Look forward to the sound demo mate, carve up that bridge pup !
What a beast brother.

That finish is fantastic. Definitely GOTM imo.
Thanks Looney :)
wow Gav, you seemed to have built this one in no time flat. Top job, you just keep getting better, mate
Thanks Stan. That's nice of you to say :). Truth be told it seemed to take forever, but most of that time was spent waiting for the weather to fine up (and stop blowing!) so I could shoot clear coats.
cheers,
Gav.
Excellent Gavin! Yes the weather here is terrible!
finish came up amazing, very nice result
My paint job is taking longer than i thought. had so many stuff ups.. anyway..
**Admin edit: hey headcaver, just had to remove your colourful word as we have a G rating with a few young kids on here.**
Looking good! She's coming along nicely. It can be a bit of an arduous journey with paint. Sometimes the planets align, and sometimes not... Lookng forward to seeing the finished result!
cheers,
Gav.
This is such an awesome build. It inspired me to try and make a Dee Dee counterpart. Just placed a custom order for an Alder PB4. I will be using all your tricks from this build.
