Melvins!! What a band!
Now I have that line from "Celebrity Head" by Powderfinger in my head ...."But I'm a part of the scene, I know a guy from The Melvins."
Fantastic guitar Rob
Great finish, can I ask did you also finish the neck in the oil as well?
I see what you mean about the 3D gloss, it looks really deep.
Excellent job
Thanks Robert.Quote:

Yes, the neck is finished in Tru-Oil as well. A mate of mine has a Music Man guitar and they use TO on their necks. I was going for the same finish. The secret with the neck is to only use 4 or 5 coats of TO and then to lightly rub down the gloss with steel wool until you get a beautiful smooth satin finish. The final finish is very slick and just gorgeous to play.
Cheers

Hello All
New here and to the forum...
Would like to submit the SV-1
Just a reminder that the July GOTM Comp closes midnight this Sunday. If you have a guitar to enter, email me the four pics or post them in this thread.
Good luck to everyone!!! I wonder which celebrity is judging the LP next month...
So your LP will be ready for August gotm Hey pest? 6 month build that's got to be a record! Best of luck to all july entries
Hahaha if everything goes to plan then YES!!!
LUSTre...I'm not usually one for pointy guitars but this one might make me jump the fence.
My first ever bass build. Painted with Carmine Gypsy and kitted out with Gold Bling with a white Scratchplate!

Very nice result - the gold hardware makes it! Like I've said before I don't usually like gold-bits, but they rock on this machine.
Wow Gav, that is amazing!!!
Hubba hubba.... So many yummy basses!
Gav - great job - love the gold bling!
Very nice Gav. Agree with everybody else, that gold bling looks great. A classic design and a tasteful finish 8-)

Thanks for all the encouraging comments! Much appreciated
beautiful bass there Gav, well done, look forward to checking it out this arvo. Looks like a colourless neck/headstock ? The gold bling really suits the carmine, I thought that bottle said Conch Girl ? haha
It DID!!! Reckon DB had been hitting the hard stuff a little too hard that day???Quote:

Ok, thanks Eliot.
Congratulations Highace10 (Alexander). Mark Deutrom chose your LP-1 in Dark Tease as this month's Guitar of the Month.
Here's Mark's comments on the top three:
"I'm picking Alex's LP as my favorite.
This is a really unique color and nicely finished.
The grain stands out with a perfect amount of presence.
If Les Paul Studios had this quality of finish when
they came out, I would have bought one.
This guitar looks unfussy and has a classic, but unique look.
My second choice was Wokka's PBH-4. The finish on this
is beautiful and reminds me of a vintage classical guitar.
Looks like some time was spent to get the finish as nice as this.
Eliot's IB-7 is my third choice. The reddish stain in combination with
the black hardware is a cool combination that you don't see often.
The satin finish is also a good choice to set off the black accents.
Congratulations to all the participants on what was obviously a
lot of work, and a labor of love. If mine looks half as good, I'll be happy."
Thanks everyone for another great comp! Ok... now for August!
Well that has put a smile on my face :-)
What a surprise! Thanks Adam for a great kit...wont be my last.
Now for the ES-1G...
Congratulations to the other guys as well...amazing job!
Well done Alex!
Beautifully finished axe, a deserving winner!
Also a big well done to Woks, this one is your master piece. I will be around soon to claim it :)
Bassguy, that is one sexy axe.
Well done Alex, you beat a two time winner in Wokka.
Woks, I thought you had this one! I think thats the closest a bass has come!
Thanks Gav...pretty chuffed
Well done Alex, that is one classy looking guitar. A worthy winner mate.
rob
Thanks Robin...i guess you could call it classy. I can now imagine playing jazz in a smoke filled bar somewhere, carving out some smooth solos...pffft i wish lol
Congratulations Alex-a worthy winner with such a glorious axe!
Ill name her... Gloria Sax lol
Alex - great guitar win - maybe a 4 string another time...
Well...funny you say that. A mate has commisioned me to build him a 5 string bass. He has some good plans for it :-)
Looking forward to giving a Bass a good crack..
Hey Alex, great job with your win!!! To woks, how'd ya lose??? That bass was high up there IMO right next to the LP, but Alex's Axe (name perhaps?) is just a tiny bit better!
Good Luck to all next month, the LP is currently just about finished!!!
Congrats on the win Alex, you should be really proud of your finished LP. :)
