My delivery due tomorrow too!
Same here!
It arrived!
So I have to get ready for some Christmas visitors, but managed to do a quick mock to see if everything looked OK.
Seems quite good (with the exception of the vibrato route which is too small for proper motion. This seems to be a common issue though and should be easy to remedy).
The tort on the guard is nicer than I expected, I was thinking of painting the guard, but I might not now that I have seen it. We’ll see.

So I got up early this morning and sanded the body to about 240. Feeling a lot smoother now, heh. Really looking forward to sanding the neck though. It’s super rough out of the box.
Most important though, I have a “bridge update”.
I have a Squier J. Mascis Jazzmaster that I have upgraded with the TOM replacement StayTrem. So I took the original TOM bridge from the Mascis and tried it on the JZ-1... and it fits perfectly. So at the very least I have a nicer bridge to use, but it also means that any bridge that is known to just drop in on the JMJM will also work on the JZ-1. This is awesome news for vibrato use :)
I have also just had a look at the vibrato next to one removed from my other Squire VM Jaguar. The kit vibrato is significantly smaller than the Squier. This includes where the strings are anchored making the spacing quite different.
I am very tempted to try and expand the route to allow for the Squire vibrato in its place.
The rosewood on the fretboard looks fantastic!
Building a kit guitar is the cruelest prank an instant gratification junkie can play on themselves.
I am testing some clear enamel spray and some oil spray. One of them will go on my neck, but it could take days to be ready enough to even determine which one I wanna use... much less actually use on the neck itself!!! Argh! Hah.
Unless the oil changes a LOT after 24 hours and some sanding, then it’s a no-brainer for the clear spray. It already feels amazing after 2 hours.
Been sanding away, and feel safe to start the clear on the neck today. I figure out of the two (body and neck) I care most about getting the finish “right” on the neck... so I am starting it first.
So the first coats have gone on!
The neck is going amazing. It was what I was the most worried about, but I am feeling great about it now.

The body COLOUR is making me super happy, but my first coat was a bit of a disaster, hah. Runs and spots with less paint, etc. hopefully it’s no big deal and after I sand it and give it another colour coat it will look amazing.
I had plans to do a mottled colour coat with many colours cause I wasn’t sure if I could do a good enough job, but even withe the terrible first coat I am really feeling the solid “Ocean Mist”. I even like the tort with it!

Edit: The neck picture is blurrier than I thought looking at it on my phone, sorry...
