Loooove that headstock!
Arrrgh!
There goes my natural finish idea. :(
Fell of the shelf when I was moving stuff around. Bugger.

Ouch, sad face. The dents on the top should steam out ok, even if it takes a couple of goes. Glueing the fracture will probably be the deciding factor for a natural finish but I wouldn't give up on the idea just yet. Are there any other marks on the top or back?
No, looks like the rest of the body is OK. The chip is nice and clean so I've glued that. I haves some goof-off, so I'll scrub the excess off once its hard. I got my steam cleaner out and gave it a blast. It appears to have worked but I'll let it dry right out and re asses.
I think I might just get away with it. Just as well I haven't finished sanding it yet. Fingers crossed its only a minor hiccup.

Sanding, sanding, sanding.....
Good news the damaged horn is not noticeable, so I dodged a bullet there and am still on track for a natural finish.Still not 100% happy with the shape of the horn, but its getting there.
Still umming and ahhing about setting the neck before finishing. I might stain them separately then set it before doing clears.....

First coat of stain on. The red I have is like a stop light, so black first, sand back and then the red for a nice deep colour.... I hope.

Great repair Sonic.
How do you steam out the dents???
Btw What black stain is that? I'm really interested to see how it looks with the red over it.
Yeah I'm, really happy with how well it fixed up. I have a steam mop that has a detachable section you can use for steam cleaning. I blasted it with that- took about 10 seconds for it to lift back up. you could still see a 'bruise' when it was wet, but once it dried out you could barley make out anything. a bit of a sand and it looks perfect.
Black stain is Feast Watson Prooftint - black from the big green shed. It's awesome, and I really loved how it looked in the matt black where you could just see the grain. I may still go back and make it black.....
I sanded back the body, actually looked pretty cool. The stain took better to some areas of wood than others so it wasn't very even looking, no matter how much I sanded. I left the bevels and sides as a bit of an experiment.

First coat of red stain - using fountain pen ink. Not especially happy with it, its a bit too uneven.

I'm going to sand and repeat a couple of times - although now I have some areas that just don't want any colour to soak in. Hopefully it'll come up a bit better. Otherwise as above, I have heaps of black left so I might just do that.
Thanks for those tips Sonic. I've got a Strat body with a heaps of dings, I'll give it a go. The kit was from an American company and was so bad that they sent me a replacement body. I've spent a few hours sanding, filling sanding, sealing, sanding.... It's almost ready to begin fine sanding!! Think it's gunna be candy apple red. I'll begin a diary soon.
I reckon the red on yours will look great after a few coats.
