So my plan on finishing is to grain fill with Ebony timbermate 1st. When dry and sanded will a water based stain 're-wet' the grain filler? Intend on doing a burst of some sort by hand rubbing and wonder if the Ebony timbermate will re-wet and discolour upon rub/blending stain colours?
Will do some testing when back at work, just wondering if anyone has tried this before.
Also looking to finish with nitro laquer.
aiming for somthing like this:

That's a really good question, I don't actually know the answer, you'll just have to try the water based stain and timbermate on a scrap bit of wood.
Then let me know what happens....i am intrigued:confused:
Shaped up the headstock yesty, $8 coping saw from certain green shed, grandpas files and everyones favourite - Sand Sand, & more Sand
Then did some more Sanding of the body, applied firstcoat of Ebony TM and continued Sanding, gonna do more Sanding today
So much Sanding, 'what a beach'

The boy put in when cutting / filing the headstock, then snuck off with the girlfriend when the sandpaper came out.. smart lad !
No pain, no gain. Looking good.
The Ash body is looking real good...
1st coat of Ebony TM well sanded.
Decided to do a 2nd TM fill as per some wise advice seen on another thread. (cheers Simon)
Cant wait to recommence sanding soon after this coat hardens up
