Oops!
Glued and clamped now. Have to see if it is going to survive of not. In hindsight Tassie Oak is not a great wood for this. it splits too easily along the grain.
bummer Fretty, what happened were you drilling the jack hole and that happened ?
OOOH Bad words. Bad words at high volume. Tas Oak and, i have found Vic Ash, has this tendency. I noticed the Vic ash especially was prone to a lot of edge feathering when routing, even with new sharp bits. My experiences with Tas Oak have been similar.
Hope you can pull it through Fretty, if not I have some maple and mahogany offcuts that might suit you depending on your dimensional needs.
Not nice. I feel for you. But nil desperandum.
IIRC, all oak has that tendency to split. Which is why oak furniture is so big and chunky as it's very hard to work it when it's thin.
At least you've got the option of solid colours to cover up the joins.
Ok, its glued back together but I will have go with solid colour finish (probably white). I haven't done this successfully previously so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
How does it look Fretty?
yeah Fretty how did the fix go ?
there have been tutorials on solid paint, can't remember where they are
Solid paint is easy.
Filler/primer, sand to flat off and shoot colour followed by clear.
Acrylic rattle cans in your desired colour from Supercheap or that other unmentionable place will see you home
