Ok so question for you finish experts. How fine of grit should I sand down this ash body before I grain fill? I am filling with ebony timbermate before I stain to make the grain pop.

Ok well I got some more work done on my bass tonight while I still wait for my decal for the tele build nearing completion. I have been sanding and sanding. I made the belly cut and the forearm cut a little bigger to be more comfortable and reduce some weight. I grain filled with ebony timbermate and sanded more and then some more. I started a mock up of the modified pickguard with some cardboard... thanks for the idea ILR... even painted it white to get the idea.. ordered all my goodies.. new hipshot kickass bridge, hipshot tuners with drop tuner, new pickups from GuitarFetish, some white pearloid pickguard material, a preamp system from tone monsters.. so when all that stuff gets here I am going to make some major progress.Attachment 19794Attachment 19795Attachment 19796Attachment 19797
wow that looks unreal DD, you really popped the ash grain nicely ! With the pre-amp system where are you planning to put the battery ? You may need to route a battery box cavity
Thanks Wokka! When I stain it and then clearcoat to a high gloss I'm hoping it adds tons of depth. Not sure if I will need to grain fill another coat or just use more clear..
Yeah I am going to rout the battery box on the back. I forgot to mention that. I got a template to match the gotoh battery box. I have two options on positioning. But gonna wait till the box comes and layout.
Nice grain. Looks sorta like zebra wood. Can't wait to see it finished
Oh yes now we're talking DD - looks awesome!
4th shot shows some nicely popped grain on the back.
I know Waz just imagine if that one piece in the middle had the same grain as the outside pieces.
