Welcome along John - couple of Canberrans (and ex pats) around!
Yep, I was lucky to escape around September 1980 and been a Queenslander ever since. The worst of winter here only gets down to about 2-5 degrees overnight and 10-15 during the day which is probably what you might be experiencing right now? Don't miss the heavy frosts either where everything was frozen solid and frequently topped off with thick fog lasting most of the day.
Ahh, the memories....
That said - every now and then I miss the crunch of grass on a winter morning. Not often, but every now and then :).
Ha ha Andrew, looks like she's having fun. The water 'varnish' is a neat trick. I was making a whole stack of bookcases last year and convinced my son he was an important part of the construction process by giving him a bucket of water and a brush. It was the only way I could get them built without him trying to use my drill!
Nice to see some Canberran ex-pats about. I'm a Goulburn boy really - not all that far from Canberra, but more extreme climate. Goulburn gets properly cold, and has that incredible biting wind that cuts right through to your bones. Canberra seems almost tropical by comparison
There is a reason why they have the super max jail there and concur that it is one of the most miserably cold places in that part of this country. Up near Orange and Oberon is worse plus many parts up the New England once winter arrives.
hahaha, winter down here is still better than that humid, soul destroying thing that you Qlders call summer! :)
I'm about half way between Canberra & Cooma John, on the Monaro - & yep, it also tends to get a bit chilly occasionally...
Try riding a motorbike to work and getting snowed on.......
I do remember being kicked out of the swimming pool when I was learning in Canberra because my lips were blue.
Ha ha, Hobastard, you win - that is certainly a more extreme (and inconvenient) winter.
Dave, let me know when you're racing and I'll bring the fam down. I haven't been out to Wakefield for about ten years or more. Last time I was there I was trying to sell pizza for a well known chain in 2 degree weather and pouring rain. Fun times!
