Butchers Block Axe - now that would be something different.
Tele for sure, they seem to be a great body shape for oddments wood styles...
And consider a strap clamp for holding it together, done right you could glue it up complete rather than in sections...

cheers for the ideas everyone. After watching the chopping block video the end grain is going to be harder to sand and shape but I think it should still be pretty easy being pine.
Cheers for the video Bman. As I haven't got all the machinery he has I'll be finding an easier method and using a breadboard clamping jig we made and clamps and flat wood pieces on the other 2 sides to clamp the matrix together.
