Keep at it JT, slow and steady is a good attitude to have :)
Pick guard is disassembled ready to be reshaped once I finish abusing the body. Is it worth removing the existing shielding and redoing with copper tape over the entire back face?

Front of the top horn is roughed out. A couple of little touch ups to be done and then start on the back of the horn.

I think I'm quite happy with the result. The kids looked a bit surprised when they saw it. I think they might have been expecting a bit of a disaster. They like the shape of the body more now. I suppose that's what you get when you have them listen to a fair bit of metal growing up.

Time to start sanding the body to a point where I can give it a healthy dose of Black Stump DT. I have a feeling that's going to take a while. Times like these I think it could be handy to own a bobbin sander.
I'm tossing up between using a Dremel, a copping saw or scraping with a sharp blade to do the pickguard. Any gotchas to watch out for when working the plastic?
Now I've had some time looking at it I think it looks a bit like a Strat that wanted to be an SG.
Nice carving job, nice refinement to the standard st-1. I'd be very happy with how that's turned out.
