@ Nick and Tony, yeah I use 60 watts too, but I just had it on for a smidge too long, for the rewire I'll definitely use a quick touch, love the almost instantaneous melting of the solder!

Pest - also found that using the right solder is a must - started with some from the big green barn - that was 2-3 times as thick as the stuff I found at Altronics. Took 3 times as long to get it to run and when it did it ended up everywhere. Picked up some new stuff from Altronics and it's sooooo much easier...

If you can afford a few bucks extra, a "temperature contolled" soldering station is more than worth its weight.
I'm with Brendan, I get all my peripheral components etc from Altronics.
