For the stain I used a FW sample pot of Baltic, the 50ml was plenty, I've barely used a third of it. I was looking around to see what was available for finishes, I wasn't keen on straight Poly due to the tone-killing properties that has been mentioned on this forum, but I wanted something that wouldn't need constant touchups. I came across the FW Floorseal Oil, which I thought was worth a go. So far so good, it goes on nicely, and is giving the body a real glow. Time will tell how durable it is, but I figure if it's for flooring it should be fine for a guitar :)
The shed is a recent addition to the house, I thought the least I could do was get a project to justify it ;) Good thing it's daylight savings as it's not powered yet, but that will happen in the next month or 2 hopefully.
Looking great Ian! That grain on the body has popped very nicely indeed. I'm very interested to see how the flooring oil comes out.
cheers,
Gav.
Stain looks great, very subtle against that beautiful grain, nice job with the headstock too.
nice one Ian, I'm a fan of old baltic FW, its a nice colour. Look forward to seeing how the floorseal oil goes, sure it will give a good finish
Well the 4th coat went on tonight, now I need to leave it to fully cure (the tin says a week, but it also says leave it for a month before polishing), I'll see how it looks in a weeks time, I'm sure it will take a couple of weeks to fully assemble anyway. The waiting is always the hard part! I might have to look at another kit in the meantime, I can definitely see where the GAS comes from!

I don't know if there is much difference in the pictures from last time, but it looks amazing, I couldn't be happier :) I can't wait to get it built and out in the sunshine!
looking great Ian, so are you stopping at the 4th coat of the floorseal oil ?
Doesn't look as glossy as tru oil in the pics but looks like its got a nice shine.
I'll probably give the floorseal oil a go once you give it the thumbs up
Good work brings out the grain nicely.
That's developing into a killer Tele.
Good use of out of the square products too. I'm keen to see this baby all kitted out . . .
I might give this FW floorseal a go on a Paulownia tele body I have laying around not doing much. It has a nice figure but the wood is way to soft for naughty oil or similar finish.
