Right! Time for some guitar pr0n and more questions. I opened the box and used some cotton gloves when handling the neck and body to avoid the risk of body oil staining the unprepared timber. However, there are a number of spots on the neck that looks like glue residue.

Will the glue sand out or do I need to do the wire brush trick when preparing for paint. There is also a dark stain that resembles mould so I'm guessing it's residual spalt? Can you even get spalted basswood?

Wire brush is the go mate.
Not sure about that stain. It's possible it got wet or simply rubbed against something dirty.
Once you've cleared the glue with the brush I'd suggest pore filling the entire body like the others have said. It'll fill that scuff and give you a better surface to prep.
Matt, for the "scuff/dent" if it is actually a dent where the fibres have been depressed, rather than a scuff or gouge where the fibres have been cut or torn out, you should be able to iron out the dent. I use this technique a lot, it works really well, and is much better than having to sand a whole area just to remove a minor ding. I'd be reluctant to do it on some of the more fragile caps on certain kits, but it's great for fixing general body dents, especially on basswood.

Diggin' the artwork concept man, kind of like Terminator meets Alien. I guessing you must be pretty shit hot with an airbrush to pull this one off. Will be watching with interest.

Timbermate is available all over the place - even in big green barns (if you catch my drift). Check for it in the crafty hobby'y sort of space near the spakfiller stuff.
Yep I've scored some now thanks Brendan. Body has already had a first coat and sand and headstock is being done tomorrow
Sorry for being away for a little while guys...Been away with the rugrats on school holidays. A small update with a few pics but there will be more tomorrow once I upload them to photobucket. Neck taped up in preparation for sanding and then painting - headstock is now painted gloss black

I've attached a quick scribble from my mate Al, of what the graphic may look like for the body. We're changing the female face back to a skull as it'll look better and the amp bits are going to be removed as it dilutes the biomech theme and trends to be a little steam punk.
