Some good suggestions there fellas. It'll be a stain burst, not solid , cos the grain is just too pretty. Thanks Barge for reminding me of "Lick My Love Pump". I used to know how to play that, might have a go today!

All righty, I'm conscious that, because of where the really nice grain is, doing a burst from black may hide some of the best grain, so I'm toying with the idea of using the "apply black, sand back" trick to make the grain pop under another colour (in this case, dark blue). I haven't done that before, so would be grateful for advice on two things: 1 - what kind of stain is good for doing the black, and 2 - does anyone know where I can find a dark blue stain?!

I'm also toying with the idea of using the wipe-on poly as the last step to get a nice glossy finish, but I'm aware that that stuff may not be compatible with whatever blue I'm able to find. I have a few weeks to work this out, since I won't even get a chance to start sanding till weekend after next (busy life and all that). But it would be good to have a plan, rather than just plunging in with the Feast Watson Japan Black and then discovering that the intended following steps won't work.

Glenn - just thinking of Robin's STA-1 in black - you could still see the grain there...

In terms of shiny coats, can I suggest Dingotone? LOTS shinier than Wudtone. Almost at poly... Well worth a look. DB may also be able to organise a nice dark blue for you...

Reasonable suggestion - calling 1800-DINGOBASS ...

that central panel just lifts the body, no way should this be a solid colour. Plan sounds good Glenn
