Do you think a few fine most coats over the metallic before I do the burst is a good idea. Just thinking it may be a good insurance policy incase I get a few wayward black dots I can go back over with some steel wool real light just until the dot is removed and the clear will protect the silver.
I dont see a problem with that except that you might lose a little tone from the thickness of the finish, but if youre fine with that, its a sensible idea.
It's my first burst so just to err on the safe side I think I'll go with it.
the only disadvantage with that idea is the ability to blend your black and silver as well. But with some finesse you should get a nice result
Ahhhh now I don't know what to do haha. I'd go with you Stan but seeing as it's a metallic finish, any black overspray I'll need to sand wrecking the metallic underneath. Confused now ....
Andrew - how about getting some cheapo pine / ash from the big green barn and trying it out? Get a touch of practice in and work out which way works best for you.... I think when you come down to it, there are many ways to skin a cat - different ways work for each person better or worse.
Heh that's the go I think. I'll use a sheet of cardcoard the shaape of the ex and have a crack. No green sheds out this way unfortunately.

I did that with my paisley JM...sprayed clear over the print before I did the black burst.
Worked fine...blended nicely. Although I use a touchup spray gun, which would give more control than rattle cans, but you should be fine.
