Looked at fitting pots to pickguard. Has anyone seen pots like those shown? What is the small lug to the left on top of the base of the pot? Never come across this before. Naturally the pots will not sit flush with the pickguard. Very strange. Presumably these lugs have to be removed?Attachment 43968

Hi GreyFloyd.
These are quite typical. A couple of my kits have used them. The lug is designed for metal or plastic control covers, which will contain a small drill hole next to the main pot hole, and it stops the pots from rotating if they become loose. I have also had some with a "serrated" (not sure of the proper terminology) washer.
The lug can be broken off if needed. Or drill a hole in the plate to take it.
I have included a picture of a tele control plate to see the extra holes.

Thanks Trevor. Took for me the easier option and drilled two 2.5mm holes in pickguard and fitted pots flush. Next stop wiring.

Managed to fit in a good two hours soldering this morning, wiring to everything on the pickguard. Only thing outstanding is fixing bridge post earth to tone pot, then I can start to assemble. Have given body about ten coats of Truoil with a light sand of 0000 steel wool between coats.

Did the final solder; attached pickguard; hammered in four posts; assembled bridge etc; strung it up; set it up; tuned it then had an hour playing to my satisfaction! Hope you like the finished product!Attachment 43983

Looks great GreyFloyd. Hopefully, and the fact that you played it for an hour, it is playing well. I'm glad my advice was useful.
