@Waz
I'm with you there mate as regards the middle pickup on a Strat, a sweet sound. I know that the neck pup on a strat is located exactly at the 24th fret position to coincide with one of the harmonics, not sure about the rational of the middle pup. Further research is required.
When I get a bit further into the build I will measure out the middle stat position and see if its doable.
@Cliff
Seems Waz and I are in good company then.:)
Thanks guys

Another man with good taste. lol
@Cliff
Thanks mate, interesting site. Lots of research to be done there. Looks like i should have visited it before I started this build.

It took most of the day but I got the 3 separate body sections cut out today.
2 outer layers of laminated pine that sandwich a layer of marine ply.

Why 3 layers? That’s because I don’t have a router and this seems to me to be the easiest way to cut out a neck pocket. I just need to cut the pocket out of the top layer.

I need to do some work on the body pieces before they are glued together so I cut up bamboo kebab skewers as dowels to locate all the pieces together to stop them from moving around while I am working on them. You can just make out the dowel in this shot.

Mistake #2. It appears that did not do a very good job with the neck pocket. Its ok but not as tight as my previous guitars. I have some thin veneer off-cuts laying around so should be able to shim it to tighten it up.
Tomorrow I will use my Japanese saw rasp to roughly shape all the pieces before I get into chiselling out any internal routing that has to be done before gluing the body together.
Really enjoy your approach Robin. I have a long term plan of making semi hollow acrylic bodies on a laser cutter using a similar 'sandwich' approach.
