Swanny thanks for the advise i will give that a go.
Hi,
Hope the photo bit works. I have had the stain blled through onto the plastic binding, any suggestions on how to remove this. I have used acetone/ turps/ goo off and sandpaper but cannot remove the hair line stain.

Hm, sometimes these are hairline cracks where the color crept in. Scraping won't help then. If you carefully scrape it and realize it's not going to get away, you can try dipping a cotton swap in acetone and then make a few smooth swabs on it, hoping the acetone will "reglue" the surface of the crack. You need to be careful, tho, the acetone will melt the binding, so only dip a cotton swap and not a full rag. And make smooth sweeps, don't get stuck on the crack, or you will melt in a dip.
If nothing else works, last resort is you can rough the surface and paint the binding. It is a last resort solution as it can easily look dodgy and the leaving the hairline cracks might be a better solution in the end.
Thanks for the reply's. I will just leave it as is. I tried acetone, but it just started to melt the plastic but did not remove any stain. Tried scraping the binding but the stain is in to deep to remove.
I will know for next time to apply the stain "dry"
Thanks again.
Hi all,
Just a quick update, the staining is finished all it needs now is the clear coat of gloss. I will leave the stains on the binding (as cannot remove them ) hopefully it will give it a used look .
I have learnt that stain / timber can have a mind of its own regarding the effect and finish, I am happy with the colour of the back and neck but not so much on the front, spalted maple I feel now should be left and just clear coated, I have learnt for next time.
Next stage is to attach the neck which is tomorrows job. I modified 2 cork sanding blocks for the purpose of clamping the neck. The neck one is curved to the radius of the neck along with cutouts for the frets. both have a solid piece of timber glued to them for clamping purposes I think this should protect the neck and body while clamped.
I will post in the wiring section for advise as I have managed to purchase 2 genuine Hofner pickups but like everything the wiring is different as there are 3 wires not 2. Hopefully someone can help me out.
Can someone let me know if the photos are visible, thanks.

I can see 5 photos. You can't post more than 5 site-hosted photos in a single post, so if you had more, you'll need to post them again.
Thanks Simon, that message about 5 photos came up when i was posting.
Just an update neck is attached and wiring is done.
